    Howza Bruthas,
I am starting to tear into the flatty 6 ofmine and I want to see if the mutha will turn when spark is thrown at it. The motor turns freely when spun with a breaker bar, and the rotor turns as I spin the crank. Now, all of the wiring has been clipped and tossed so I am out of luck trying to use every trick that I already know. So, how do I get juice to it to turn it over? I have tried attaching positive and negative battery cables to it and attatching a lead to the strter*****on...nuthin'. So, how is it done? Any ideas??

Run a hot wire directly to the starter. Ground to engine.

Make sure the wires are normal size for the starter, not just some 14 guage. Something like jumper cables.

Alright let me see if I get this...I run the hot lead as I normally would from the battery to the starter. Then ground the battery to the block. Then how do attempt to activate the starter? Like I said, all of the wires have been cut under the dash and in the engine bay. Easy now, I am new at this.. [IMG]

    Spooky,

Not sure what you're working on here - if it's Ford or Mopar it would have a remote starter relay so any power put directly to the starter should spin it over automatically, no switch necessary so don't go bolting battery cables on.

    Assuming it's positive ground...

Ground the battery "+" to the engine. Jumper a hotwire from battery "-" to the coil's "batt" or "-" terminal and touch a cable from the battery "-" to the starter.

That should get you spinning and hopefully running.

whats the make of the motor? is there a solenoid on the starter?

ou need power to the coil to get the motor to fire.

once that starter is grounded and the batt "+" is connected to the starter it will be turning. so one of them has to be momentary, don't go making permanent connections.

do you have power to the coil? is the dist. hooked up? is the motor timed?

The positive lead from the battery is hooked up to the starter. The battery is grounded to the engine. I see no other place where a wire would come off of the starter. None of the other wires on the engine-coil, etc- are hooked up. All I want to do is see if the power from the battery will turn the engine over. Will it spin the engine. I will put fourth an effort into the rest once I see that it will turn over with power. This is just a test really. [IMG]

Yeah, yeah, yeah....Man, I am just using what I have. The engine was a freebie inside the pick up it came with. [IMG]

I may not have read this correctly but if you have the battery going to ground, already, and the positive cable hooked up to the starter post, and nutin's happening either the battery or the starter is history.
(There should be a starter solenoid and starter switch/button in that circuit on the hot side)

Sounds like a starter prob, a freind of mine just went thru the same scenario on a flatty 8. Do you have it wired for 6 volt or 12...that could also cause probs.

DRJ is right. Either the battery or the starter is history. Make sure the ground is a good one (no paint or rust). After grounding, touch the hot to the post on the starter. If the battery and the starter are good the starter should spin.
