Well it all started after I read an artical in a recent Chevy high Perfomance magazine that talked about building a car that will run a 13 sec quarter mile for $1300 or less. The next day at work we bench raced over lunch..... but not much else. $1300 isn't much..... but it is about $1300 more than we each had. The next day my buddy Josh remembered that he had the perfect canadate, a 1956 Chevy 2 door sedan..... that didn't have a chassis..... or a floor and lots of Tetanus! With that we all started talking about what we had.... what we could find.... and what we would have to buy! 20151202_201438.jpg 20151202_201438.jpg

After asking around one of the old guys in the shop at work had a 55 chassis that been through a tornado. Supposedly it was a pretty cherry 55 that soared through the air approximately 350 feet in the air and landed on the body. The chassis seemed to be pretty straight considering..... All the motor mounts were broke.... which allowed for easy removal of the engine and trans which the guy wanted to keep. The guy even lent us his car hauler to haul it home. He let us have the chassis for free.... well he wants to run it a quarter mile when we are finished. And we hooked him up with a 30 pack of miller light when we returned the trailer.

There was a huge pile of miller light cans in the guys shop..... turns out that is his woman's favorite brew..... now that's a woman! I dig what you are doing. I just challenged my best friend to a "first car challenge" yesterday. We both had O/T 60's-70's Chevys given to us as our first cars when we were very young. Neither of us have ever driven them. We have built other cool projects, but the first cars have always been on the back burner. We haven't penciled out the rules yet but I am thinking a three part challenge based on first one to get it running, least money spent, and a drag race when they are both finished. Mostly just an incentive to get them drivable. We are thinking like a 2g price cap.

I always like the Grassroots Motorsport magazine challenge to build an all around race car for the same price as the year. Very fun and creative thinking involved. Good luck to you

  15. So you got a mill? I got a loaner if you need one. probably make it faster that 13 seconds though. LOL

^^^^^actually, rusted metal weighs MORE than virgin metal!

  20. looks like a fun project. Reminds me of my drag racing days when somebody would bring a beater down to the track and the rear quarter panel would be flapping in the breeze as it went down the track because it was all rusted out on the bottom few inches.

When 'free' plays into the picture, the bogus meter starts moving on these type of builds. Sorry, JMO. The $35 big block that just needs a water pump ain't far off. Turbo 350/400/Muncie found under a bench, free rearend from an old Ford pickup in a field. Makes for good magazine readin', but....

I'm all about low-buck and I'll be rootin' for ya. Just hope it stays realistic is all.:D

Wow! Lots of love on here, I appreciate it! Don't worry, there will be lots of "freebees" but we will try to keep it as legit as possible. Don't worry, we are not high dollar people.... and we don't know any eaither :)

Picked up a couple of roll cages from a guy in Alabama on my way down to visit my dad in Florida. $100 Because ever 13 sec car needs a roll cage.

    Build total =$126

Some of the boys (Michael and Grant) came over last weekend and we broke the chassis down and wire wheeled it. It is amazing how much you can get done with a couple more hands!
