I like it alot. Everything works well together. The headlights, wheels and tires, stance. Everything. The headers look killer. Sweet ride.
I haven't checked the response on this post since I got it going....All I can say is WOW !!! Thanks for all your comments, made me perk up, especially since this is an "old ressurected circle track chopped up /welded up job"(and several parts are off the orange car in the pics after its last rebuild) A little history....I have had the 5w up and going for 35plus years as a driver and made most of the Nats in that one. Ground up build twice in those years. The 3w was donated to my pile of old cars about 35 years ago and it was just too far gone to do much with. Started to redo into a circle track car years ago and then it just sat again. Then, this new revival of "Hard Core Hot Rods" started up and...viola...perfect canadate for it, especially with all the misc left over parts around here. So this is the result of "resurrected junk" and it really reminds me of my roots in Hot Rods...I love it!!!! Some questions were asked...Top was chopped 5 1/8 in front/ 4 1/2 in rear and the windshield layed back(streamling trick, for "better gas mileage") The front wheels were some fairly rare American D spokes from my pile of wheels that were 6 inches wide...wanted to run the Firestone ribbed fronts, so we cut them down to 4 inches and I welded them up from both sides....the rears are 6 inch standard spoke wheels. It was hard to NOT polish out the machined rim portion, but it just fits the old timey look that I was after. The next change to the car will to replace the old Flathead(that was also out of the orange coupe from 35 years ago) with a new blown Flathead, that didn't quite get finished for the Roundup. After that, make the passenger door operate and then fill the hood, roof and decklid with louvers....lots of them(I figure I'm gonna just make a press, cause I'm too cheep to pay somebody that much for so many louvers!!!) And buy a large box of earplugs, before I loose all of my hearing driving this thing!!! I'll keep an update going... Thanks alot for all the response!!!! Skot
Glad to hear you're going to get that other door open. It was a PIA climbing thru the roof and now I'd look real stupid climbing in from your side Hope the blower motor sounds better than that wussy motor! Your Yankee Friend
What is the steering and how does it steer with that severe angle? Car is just too cool for words. Totally a badboy!
You are now officially on my list of all time coolest old hotrodders that I have met. I love you cars and what you are doing. Glad we got to meet you at the Roundup ans exspecially thanks for the garage crawl. The Flatty is awesome!!!!
...Rusty, where's the love man? I don't own a trailer and never will...although I hear they CAN be rented... She's a driver, I promise. You can drive her at the Hamb drags along with your pops.
Very impressive. I spied it at Flyrite choppers lunch feed and waited about 10 minutes for people to give me a good camera shot of it...I saw the welded-shut passenger door. Glad to hear you're gonna make it operational.. Love the overall attitude of the car. I'm sure the gold-chain streetrodders are having envious thoughts. I mean, what other deuce 3 window can you drive to Walmart and leave in the parking lot to suffer the indignities of door dings and shopping cart damage? I doubt I'd change much on it..
Dear "Favorite Yankee Friend" Next year at the Roundup, I think I will bring a padlock to put on the passenger door(that will be operating by that time)...Just to see how much trouble you have crawling over the 2 metal seats and tall Hurst shifter!!! And, yes I plan on having my camera.....hahahahaha
Curbspeed....It has a F-1 steering box(with a little bit of slack, old parts you know)...it has a little bit of understeer, but seems to work ok so far with the small tires on it....go cart feeling, with a little bit of lag...only have a few hundred miles on it so far. Thanks for the nice comments. Skot
Larry, I have a 2" high density foam pad(stock material from McMaster-Carr) that is in the seat bottom and runs up the back. I can't put any more in the bottom, cause I couldn't see out !!!! I need to add a wedge of the same material in the small of my back to help out there. The other side has a thicker softer foam (left over out of the Stearman) that is more comfortable for that side(that also works for a "smaller passenger" that sometimes rides there. I have similar seats in the Stearman(original equipment) that I have one of those inflatable 1" pads from REI under a standard foam pad from Sporty's aircraft(it has a built in lumbar buldge in it) that works quite well for cross country trips in it....but then again, I don't have to worry about "chug holes in the road" up there shaking you bones !!! Long cross country...not near as comfy as my Fiero seats in the 5w(but then again, you can hear yourself think in that car also) You need to try to come out here next year!!! Skot
