If you mean state safety inspection, no. They check lights , turn signals, brake lights, tire tread, park brake and wiper blades. if it's under 25 years old it gets emissions check in some counties.
Probably a dumb question, but it won't be the first time...do YOM plates have to be from the state you are registering it in? Any confirmation on the YOM plates no longer allowed in Texas? When I have my newer daily drivers inspected here, they always take it for a drive around the block. Is that required?
yes...they have to be for the state you are registering in.....and you can still do it in Texas. The plates have to be in decent shape to....can't be really rusty. They just have to go far enough to test the brakes......don't need to go around the block or even leave the parking lot.
This^^^^^^ is your answer. I have been using these tags for a long, long time. However, you do have to have proof of insurance if you ever get stopped by the po-po. But these tags require no inspection. You better know the ins and outs of these tags, because a lot of cops do not. They will pull you over for no front plate, (you only get one from the state), and for not having an inspection sticker.Cool car, BTW. The advice from out-of-state guys is well intentioned, but inspection, title, tags, and registration vary (sometimes a lot), from state to state.
I have that on one of my 66 Impalas for almost 5 years now. Never been stopped or hassled about it. No front plate or any stickers on the windshield. All depends on the area I suppose.
Yep-the lack of a front plate really sets off the DPS guys. THEN they see a 20 year old inspection sticker, and here we go again. Like I said, YOU better know how these plates work, because many law enforcement officers don't. Locals cops and Sheriff's deputies don't seem to care/know. Your milage may vary.
I ran a 66 F100 as my daily driver recently in The Woodlands/Conroe area and decided to run regular plates. I tried getting it inspected at a place in Conroe and the guy was a prick and honestly didn't know what he was talking about. So...I took it to a guy out in the country and he didn't bat an eye. He had it inspected in 10 minutes. As I was paying the bill he told me, "you know if you get that registered as an antique you wont have to mess with this." And, as he others in this thread have indicated, that is true. I'll be registering my 54 Ford in the next month or so and it'll be as an antique.
