Has anyone transferred an older out of state ***le to Texas from another state?
***uming that proper VIN #'s appear, I'm wondering if there's a intensive inspection procedure or whether it's primarily processing of paperwork.

I just had to get a form from the inspection station, stating that the vechicle was in running and good condition. Then take that form ( has a specific name ) to the local tax office and they did the ***le transfer and issue the plates.

The form has a number, but most inspection stations just call it the "green form". I have done what you are trying to do several times with no problems, but the last time the girl at the tax office (a rookie) said she needed to see the current registration from the original state. I told her it hadn't been registered in thirty years and she told me.... now get this... I would have to go to the original state and get it registered befor she could transferred. Yeah, lke they are going to do that for someone who lives out of state. I went back the next day andthrew it down in front of another chick and BANG!....... no problem. Gotta love the DMV.

one word of caution.. in Texas cars use the Vin on the vin tag, Trucks of any size use the vin on the frame. make certain your ***le matches that. It is a real nightmare to fix if it doesn't. just did one, I know.

you can do Registration only you may have to argue a little and have them look it up.

I had a Washington ***le in my name for my car and just wanted to register it in Texas. they let me do that without changing to a Texas ***le.

If you go with Antique plates you don't need a green sheet.

  5. I've registered old cars I bought from out of state with no problems, just like registering a TX ***led car. In & out in 10 minutes, no inspections, no haggling, nothing. Then again, that was in Corpus Christi, Waco, Buda, & San Marcos... Not a metropolis or anything, so maybe it's always been easier for me.

PS: It's always been like this...

Me: "Hi, I just bought this old car and I want to transfer the ***le in my name, and register it as an antique with these Y.O.M. Plates."
Fat Lady behing counter: "OK, that'll be $**.**"
    Me: "Word"

the good thing about the DMV is it's whoever is sitting in the chair at the time, there decision. I can't say anything bad always had good luck.

You do not have to register it if you can't drive it at the time. You can get the ***le transferred into your name and register it later. Much easier to register later it if the ***le is already in your name.
