Loads of good, reliable stand alone ignition systems from around the 80's have gone to the junk yards, while people have been buying aftermarket electronic ignitions to upgrade their older engines.

Adapting an old stock electronic ignition to a "points ignition motor" can be a great way to get a stronger spark, sometimes you may keep the points, other times you may put the electronic sensor in the old distributor instead. Grab a couple of identical sets for next to no money at the s**** yard, throw one in the trunk so you have spares IF the ignition acts up (you know you rarely need parts if you have them), and you may have a as good or better ignition for the the cost of a few beers and some garage work, as the aftermarket systems people spend hundreds on. I bet the OEM ignitions have had loads more money poured into R&D, might as well use them!
