The tranny I'm using in my 39 Chevy coupe came out of a 1981 Chevelle with a 4.6 litre 48. I thought it was a TH350 but all of the book references say that car had a TH250 metric? The only definite I-D I can come up with is that my tranny takes a 13 bolt pan and gasket and the TH250 or 200 seems to have a 14 bolt pan and gasket. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanx to all. COPCO
seems like if i remember correctly the metric kickdown is different than a th350 been so long since i seen one it could be that the th350 has a vacuum modulator and the other doesnt, ill check for sure.
the 200 does not have a modulator. The th250 is like a 350 but has no intermediate clutch, instead it has a heavy duty band and a band adjuster screw near the front of the case, just behind the pump, about halfway up one side. If the pan is square with a corner cut off at 45 degrees it's probably the 250 (or 350 if it's been swapped out) if the pan is rectangular with the corner cut off and it says METRIC stamped in the pan then it would be the 200. also the 200 does not have a tail housing that unbolts, the 250 and 350 do.
My 61 truck had a 262 (4.3L) with a T-350 from a 76 Monza (ran the block numbers) in it (killer mileage but a turd) the tranny has a boss on the bottom of the tailshaft for the torque bar that tied to the rear end in the monza. I ran the numbers on the motor. Not much help but you never know who swapped what in those cars
