Hot Rods TH350C aftermarket lockup wiring kit

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by daveydeuce, Nov 7, 2010.

  1. Am putting a fresh TH350C in a 40 Ford. Who in your opinion makes the best, simplest, easiest install, and most reliable lockup wiring harness for TH350C installs. Have looked at B&M, TCI Hughes and so on. Need the on the road user info as to which is the best for Hot Rods. My younger brother has had a transmission shop for 30 years and was my info source however his 4 year battle with cancer was lost about a month ago so looking for new info sources. He was my EXPERT!! Thanx Folks!! Dave

TheHotRodCompany.com sells one for a 700r4 and 2004r, they might carry it for a 350 as well (if there's even a difference).

They've got amazing service and are an Alliance Vendor.

You won't see much improvement by locking the converter. You gain about 100RPM after lockup and it needs a special converter to work properly. The trans won't overheat like a 700R4 so don't worry about it.

Sorry to hear about your brother Dave.

As mentioned you may not need the lockup, it's really there to work with the ultra highway gears they ran in the late 70s (think 2.29-2.41). If you're running a reasonable rearend ratio you can get away without it. But look for a kit that works like the factory setup, with the brake switch and vacuum switch. Or go junkyard hopping to find that setup in a car from the very late 70s or truck from the early 80s that did not have a computer (ie. 1981)

If you want to test it out a simple wire and switch set up will work as well

My '86 Chevy truck has one, and is not computer controlled. It was the last year with no computer, as long as it does not have CA emissions, AFAIK.
