Situation: trans fluid backing up dip stick tube and spilling out.

I am close to getting my car on the road and have driven it from my garage to a car lift on the side of my house. 2 times now after starting the car and immediately backing it out of the garage maybe 50 feet, then pulling it forward 50 feet or so to the lift, then back and forward a couple times (maybe 20 feet or so) to get it centered on the lift, the trans has puked fluid from the dipstick, quite a bit.......................It has never leaked fluid after being driven under any other conditions. Any thoughts? What can I do to prevent this from happening?

Is it possible that you've overfilled it? I know when I'd overfill my th400 it'll come out around the dipstick.

I'll be looking for an explanation also. My '32 has done that a few times in the last 80,000 miles. No rhyme or reason, just puke out a small puddle then nothing for the next 5-6,000 miles.

Doesn't the trans have a vent tube at the top? I'd suspect that it's plugged.

I have a '68 Corvette with a TH400 (which was completely rebuilt) that does this, but only after it has sat for several months or more. I believe there is a rubber grommet on the top of the dipstick that seals it to the tube. I have been going to replace mine, but after driving it a few times after getting it out of storage with no problem, I forget to do it. This may help me to remember to do it this spring.:D

Venting problems and condensation(water) will make it do that....(sweating internally)....check for a mad muddauber....

One other possibility, I think, is that the converter is leaking down. There is a check valve in the tranny that is intended to keep the converter fluid in place (full) so that there is no delay in startup by waiting for the converter to refill, AND to keep the tranny from becoming too full as a result.

It will be very helpful if the vent is just blocked as that is an easier fix, but if it isn't, you might want to inquire from a tranny shop or workshop manual to see whats involved in correcting a faulty check valve.
