TH400 vacuum modulator.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wizard of Oz, Dec 29, 2009.

  1. I have fitted an electric kickdown kit (Lokar) to my TH400 auto trans and I want to remove the vacuum modulator on the other side of the transmission as it should serve no purpose. Is this right? What would I block it off with? Should I leave it there and still hook it up? I wouldn't imagine I would, but I'm not an auto trans expert. Can some-one help? Cheers

NO, the modulator has nothing to do with the "kick down" function of the transmission. You will need to leave the modulator unless you have replace the valve body with a manual unit.

Modulator does exactly what its name implies, MODULATES, up shift pressure,
eliminating it will leave trans in lo gear from dead stop till governor overides.
NOT a street option, unles you be one hardcore MOFO!

Kinda on the same topic, but make sure you put a loop in the vacuum line behind the carb for the modulator, it will help prevent it from sucking fuel and toasting it

  5. Does anyone have a decent schematic or exploded view of a TH400? I can't seem to find anything worth using on the internet-am I not looking in the right spot? Thanks to you guys who replied so far-I appreciate the help.
