    Hey Bob,

We were chopping my car in HB yesterday and I walked outside for a little break and saw this.

The aftermath of the fires is just as bad - when we get heavy rain then we get mudslides and debris flow. Local county officials told us at last community meeting that the fastest ever debris flow was recorded at 200 mph - try and outrun that! If we get any serious rain, which we desperately need, then the burn areas are going to slide and the disasters start all over again. There are some pretty steep slopes around Brea, Chino Hills, Corona and Yorba Linda.

It's so nice to see that when a HAMBer is in need that the entire family turns out.

Bob, Have you heard from Dirt?? I called him right after you and he said he was on his way back to the house and stuck in fire traffic. Never heard back from him...

Glad things are ok man!!! I was super worried!!

  9. Bob, I'm prayin for you and your neighbors that the winds die down and some light rain to help out but not cause mud slides, Hank

  11. I'm fine! I got home at 12:45,Sunday morning. The fire had moved west toward Brea then into Diamond Bar. There's still lots of smoke though. I for got to tell you guys, while I was stuck in Chino, watching the fire from the backside,my starter got stuck engaged in my flywheel and wouldn't disengage!! What else...There was nothing I could do,so I just called my good ol friends at AAA,and had it towed to my friends house in Riverside. I have a pic somewhere,lol...Fourth time on the "hook". Oh well...

    Hammer time!

We never thought you "drove" the Merc to safety, we all thought a flatbed was involved somewhere. :D

    4th time's the charm, right?

AAA must have you on their most not-wanted list by now...

Bob, pleased to hear you came through it OK. Have been following news of the fires on TV here in NZ. The year we spent in LA there were alot of fires. Kinda nice having the climate & low rainfall in Cali, but I guess you pay for it in other ways.

That brings back some memories with shoebox ford flatheads. That happened all the time. So we all had to get out of the car and start pushing it back and forth in gear. That would pop it out.

    I guess that wouldn't work with a turbo350 auto.

Good to hear things worked out.

    Bob,

I have some video like those first couple of shots from the 2004 fire in San Diego.

The flames got within 200 yards of our house and the Firemen put them out before they caught the houses behind us on fire.

I could feel the heat of flames but refused to abandon my house.

That is why I moved east because I got tired of the all the fires in So-cal.

    Stay safe brother!

    Bob,
Glad all went well. Scary shit man. We came thru Brea Canyon Sunday afternoon
returning from the Drags. Freeway closed, smoke and fire everywhere. That old
2 lane was creepy driving through. Wonder if John Forces place survived at Savy
    Ranch?
