An ultra-mega Thank You to all who supported our Bonneville trip last summer (see Son of Godzilla Update thread). As you know, we all had way too much fun, then I came home, wrote the story and submitted it to the magazine. In typical fashion, the story was accepted then forgotten about, rejected then re-accepted, edited then edited some more, on and on... Then last week, it finally appeared in the July R&C. It's a real nice way to celebrate our salt adventure. But we couldn't be having any of this fun without your help - the HAMB rules! To everyone who bought a T-shirt, or just offered some encouragement or advice, thank you so much. This is grassroots hot rodding at it's best. It takes a village, etc... Scotty (and that goes for CC, too) PS: We'll see you guys at Speedweek...
And an extra Thank You to the R&C guys. They've been really good over the years about running my stuff, but to run a story I wrote about my own car is above and beyond. That's such a rare thing and I'm honored... Okay, enough. Scotty
Now you are HAMB famous. Congratulations, can't wait to read your ink. By teh way, did any BLACK 'zilla shirts ever get made? See ya, -Abone.
Sorry Boner - no black shirts got made (strictly traditional shirt colors) - but a few white ones were made black in the motel parking lot!
That was great to see in R&C. A good story about a home built rod written buy the builder and driver.
Just received my July R&C yesterday, your story was the first thing I read. Awsome read,it brought back a lot of good memories,my last trip to B'ville was in '99 and I can't wait to get back. Thanks for getting it into print. ......... Jack
Just read it yesterday....good story and you are very lucky to have those memories. I hope to make it out there someday. You lived a dream...
Shit, I've been meaning to pm ya jangleguy... I'm 2 for 2 with my "good luck" T shirt at job interviews... got another one here in the "D". Congrats on the ink. I'll have to go get a copy. Jay
Read it today. Great piece, very well written. Made me wanna jump in my heap and do the same thing. 130mph is a WHOLE lot harder than people think. -Abone.
Thanks 'boy. Yeah, it's homebuilt allright - this was the first car I ever built from scratch - 23 years ago. I can do better now (I know, that's not saying much)...
Jack - This would be a good year to go back - 60th annual Speedweek. A few of us are forming a Northwest "tour" to the R&C gathering there. C'mon in, the water's fine...
Hey Jay - Them are some powerful shirts! Heap big medicine in them... Thanks Cruzer - Nicest thing you could say to a writer. You just made MY day!
Hi T-bolt! I don't know about that - I was blown away by the two deuce sedans (and I don't even usually like sedans)! Also enjoyed the story on the Sacto Autorama...
Yeah and it'll still be safe to say, 30 years from now. Alas, I'm having way too much fun to be famous... And besides, look who's talking! If you guys don't know it, this is the guy behind Past Lane Auto - THE only place on earth where you can get oldtime hot rod shirts, decals, posters, videos AND genuine Son of Godzilla comix!!!
Well, the 130 and 150 Clubs don't really have back-up runs - you just get the 5 shots at running your number, period. The idea is to draw you into real class racing, where you have back-ups, teardowns, impounds and all the cool stuff...
Just read the story at the newstand! Good read man. Looks like you guys had fun............I guess I didn't know that Rocky and Jeremy ran as well!? Coolio.
T-bucket: Since we're both in the same business, I understand - I'll mail you $6 to BUY your own copy of the magazine (but I need you to pay me back some day). And yeah, Rocky and Bullwinkle kicked our asses, big time! Freckles got us on the salt - but I want a re-match at the strip! Unless Bullwinkle's yella???
Hey, are any of you guys driving your rods to Speedweek this year? We'll be camped at The Bend in the Road - free concerts nightly, after the racing...
hey man, I am not in that business anymore, left that 2 bit outfit a couple years back! But the cheapskate stuck in me
Oh yeah - sorry, I forgot. Well, at least you know how to stretch a buck now. I wrote a great How-to on reading magazines for free at the news stand, but none of the magazines would publish it. Weird, huh?
Funny, I will go back and buy that issue, a couple things I need for reference in there.........sorry, your story was not one of em
Okay, look: There's nobody else reading this - it's just you and I, so you can tell me: you really want to use the story as reference for the Morris you're building, don'tcha? I thought so. Nothing to be ashamed of, T-bolt - dozens of people have had the same idea. I don't blame you. But in the future, I think we should only discuss this on the Gay Import board - you know the one I'm talking about - the same one I saw you post on last night.
