Thank you Jesse for bringing up the tragic loss of Scott on this site, and giving everyone a chance to share their thoughts and memories. I, like some others on this site, have been around racing, drags more oft, for the last 30 plus years. As a driver/builder I have always seeked out those close to my age that have made it to the big time. Scott and I were close to the same age, so consequently, of the hundreds of national events (and pre-season test-n-tunes) I've been to in my lifetime, I've had more than my fair share of meetings with Scott. If I may echo what Brian Hight, Hillary Will and Jim O (Hilary's crew chief) mentioned about Scott, he was always engaging (in his words "if the light is right"). When he was talking racing, you always walked away knowing way more than when you first entered the conversation. He wasn't real animated during qualifying and on race day (read; Focused), but when you talked with him "after hours" he was one of the guys from the neighborhood, (of course one of the cooler motorhead guys). For our relationship I'm sure it also helped that we were both original "Northern states" guy, he from Michigan-me from Minnesota. I always felt "above others" when I saw him at the races, 'cause instead of the head nood recognition, I always got one of his firm handshakes (it seems we'd always try to crush each others hand). I was outside the front door of my house trying to finish up a new deck I was putting on, before the Saturday qualifying came on ESPN, when my wife flung open the front door and said "Oh my God, Scott was killed". I dropped my drill and ran in the house. I watched the fireball (now almost common place), saw the chutes come out (that was Scott grabbing the brake with one hand, knees under the steering wheel, while crossing over to reach the chute lever)... I've questioned E-Town's continued existence on the Pro tour, the "Slop Stop" (very similar to Pomona's "Slop Stop"), one of a list of problems. Scott was fearless to the end... and took the dragon by the tooth. Godspeed Crusher, and God bless and watch over those you've left behind. Thanks again Jesse, please accept my heartfelt condolences.
A friend of a friend was at Englishtown on Sunday for the finals and he videod the bye run made by Robert Hight. Apparently Scott would have run against Hight on Sunday. Nice tribute by Hight and nice reaction by the crowd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2lHJpWMiWM
