The Doolittel Raiders showed Japan waking the sleeping Giant was not a good idea. The success of that one mission was a huge morale booster for our great country the USA. Everyone involved during that time are certainly the Greatest Generation Ever and we owe so much to all who were involved they definitely had Balls of steel for sure.

And something else that I'm forever grateful for is that these men and all the other heroes from the war and members of the "Greatest Generation" built the America that I grew up in. Damn, I miss my Dad.

Watching a do***entary of the Apollo missions. Leaving earth's orbit for the first time heading to the moon for the first orbits; not sure if they will ever make it back. Only one shot for the rocket to fire hoping not only everything works but that the science is right.

Great men and Great accomplishments; so much has changed. I am not sure we will ever do anything that great again.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor one of the Japanese generals was supposed to have said, "I think we may have awoken a sleeping giant." Dolittle and the Tokyo Raiders sent the message, " the giant is awake and he is on the way. Be afraid...............be VERY afraid". And the rest is history.

That quote was attributed to Yamamoto himself. He had spent time in the US and knew our industrial capability would eventually win.

    Yes, that's quite right.
Hopefully, Mr. Putin won't come to visit here and see our present 'capability'...

I got a chance to shake hands with one of the guys at the Fresno Airshow in 1994. My brother who was 10 at the time was with me, and will always remember that moment, as will I. We have to remember and p*** our knowledge of this down to younger generations, who will forget, or not be tought these things as time progresses.

  14. I feel like an idiot. .. I've met the survivors of this raid in Oshkosh at the EAA many years ago and didn't think of getting their autographs or photos.

I do have a collection of fighter Aces photos and autographs from WWII that I do cherish!

My uncle was a B25 pilot... he p***ed away last month at the age of 89... heck he survived bullet and shrapnel wounds, smoked like a chimney. .. drank like a fish and nothing could kill him! He went quickly after a short bout of cancer unfortunately before we could get him on the "Honor Flight".

    God speed Captain!

Has any pieces of the planes from the raid ever been brought back to the USA for display?

These were definitely men made of the right stuff. It is truly sad when you talk to young people and they say they don't care about history.
That's why we like the hamb, it do***ents the history of the hotrods and customs.
So much of the inspiration of this great hobby came from our returning hero's.

Thanks to all those great MEN , we owe them for our freedom.
