...so says my friend Tman, but here is some ever so slight progress on my Hellbily Heep. Still just mocking things up...
Is that a Jeepster?? If so, they're cool, tyhe first post war roadster.... I know where there is one of those sitting in a barn for cheap cheap. Still got a Rodder's Digest around here with a pink one in it with a built 348 in it. I wouldn't paint it pink, but you got the start of a righteous ride there.....
It is a 1947 Jeep Cj-2A and at one time I wheeled this sucka, rebirthin' it as a jalopy; trail scratches, bullet holes and all, let her wear them scars with pride and enjoy her retirement as a sreamin' banshee.
I really like that!! Before I built my Truck I tried to find a pre '66 Landrover to build. I wanted it slammed with Halibrands and the driveline out of my Ranchero. After about a year of seaching for the right car I gave up on it ( the ones I did find they wanted stupid money for...) , and I built my Truck instead. Another one that would be cool to do would be a '66 Bronco. Rip all the 4X4 shit out of it and put it about 5" off the ground... But can you explain why you are using that Alfa Romeo mag wheel on your jeep? Cause it fits a MII?
[ QUOTE ] But can you explain why you are using that Alfa Romeo mag wheel on your jeep? [/ QUOTE ] HAHAHAAHA! That thing is just for mock-up;close to the right height and I had it laying around. I'm actually trying to use a set of Wagoneer wheels that match the rears, they are 15x6 so I want to narrow the ones I use up front and run a 135/60 or so. Unless of course one of you kind souls has a set of Halibrand twelve spokes you'll give me. Good eye though, metalshapes!
What will they think of NEXT?... JESUS CHRIST. The US POSTAL SERVICE never made any ROADSTER bodies,, I think you should DONATE it to the M.A.S.H. tv museum, and maybe the SKIPPER will JUMP shows due to the JOY................. T-man would LIKE it if you DRILLED holes in the DASH,
Hell yeah, a HOT ROD JEEP. Finally! I still have my half aborted dream of making a '48 Willys GASSER pickup. I dig the Willys and jeeps and jeepsters. [ QUOTE ] Another one that would be cool to do would be a '66 Bronco. Rip all the 4X4 shit out of it and put it about 5" off the ground... [/ QUOTE ] I actually saw this down near Maryville Tennessee about 3 or so weeks ago. I caught a glimpse of it going up the other side of the interstate and it got my attention big time. IT LOOKED GREAT. It was a real eyecatcher and way different. Hey what do I know though, I kinda digged that Florida "half car" hot rod....
That Pearl has the whole Sand Dragster look to it. Someone makes a fiberglass body, front clip and laid back grill for the sand/mud draggers. Half of my Bucket is Jeep parts, just picked up a Dana 44 last week for the rear end. If you don't have a rear end look at a Poastal Jeep rear its a narrow Dana 44 with factory posi and even length tubes.
MODEL A = HOT ROD, TIME TESTED and HISTORY APPROVED! Maybe if you remove the fenders and make 36 ford truck shell look like a 32 shell, and then add some FINNED aluminum DOO DADS, you might be closer to ROCKERIFIC, and CUFFALICIOUS......... maybe call it. EL PITO LIL' PUTO
okay you got the fire burning. I want to see this ride at Austin next year. Keep us posted on the progress. yall have way To much time in Austin.
i saw a hotrod landrover at last years wheels show in the UK but as normal cant find the photo it was very low and well done UKAde
I would love to see a pic of that. What I had in mind was a long roof version, lowered to about 4 or 5" off the ground, no bumpers and no paint ( just D/A the bare aluminum). Polished Halibrands and a 351W. I thought that would be the perfect tow car for my Mallock U2 Vintage Race Car...

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, dixiedog, I am probably gonna use a postal rear end. I was even gonna use a postal frame and front end at one point, still may. Got a whole chassis. I orginally wanted to use one of my many Toyota 4x4 rear ends as I have four 4:88 diffs with Detroit Lockers and two more 4:10 rears also with Detroits but that axle is just too wide and I am too cheap to narrow it. What's the gear ratio in those old postals? I haven't looked it up yet. [ QUOTE ] You have ear protection, right? [/ QUOTE ] Uh... what,Glenn? Glad to see some positive responses, thank you. I think it looks pretty dang cool, can't wait to drive it around a scare the poo outta the locals. Also, I plan to make the fenders and the unpictured chopped windshield frame removable for different looks according to my mood. Planning on parallel leaf springs all round with top and bottom mounts on the front axle to go spring under for low and raked or spring over for high and mighty gasser, get a few different looks outta the same "rod".
I recall a few years back there was this guy who would buy postal jeeps, slam the shit outtof em, and put chevy V8's in em and sell them on ebay. Aesthetically, they were street-rodderiffic ass fuggly, but cool cause of the power to weight ratio!
deuce, I sure do remember the half cab Bronco. If it's the one I'm thinking of it wasn't a Funny car it competed in one of the eliminator brackets. It was run by Doug Nash before he started his transmission business. It was a SUPER lightweight (aluminum roll cage) jewel that went like stink with a small block Ford. It looked like a brick standing still but when he pulled the trigger it turned into a rocket. Frank
I don't like it... Different isn't always better... actually, it's quite often worse... oh well whatever floats your boat... too much crap laying around and too much time to waste
cool....I thought of trying something like that, but didn't think it would look right....looks like I was wrong and you've got a awsome project...keep up the good work...can't wait to see it when you are done
Ya know, that jeep will never get off the "ROCKERBILLYRIFFIC PONTIFICATING PSEUDO-NEO-TRADITIONALISTS" (do I add extra commas here?) but it will be cool, and a fucking blast to drive. Repeat after me... BUILD WHAT YOU LIKE.
I worked for the Postal Service for years as a vehicle mechanic. None of our Jeeps had posi rear ends in them. They were all open.
I think that is ingenuity at its finest, and that's my favorite thing, something that was once junk but now goes fast and loud.
