Last Wednesday (April Fools Day) was officially my last day of work. Retired after 34 years as a mechanic and then 20 years in the auto parts business. Time to prove all the people that say I'll get bored when I retire wrong. With three vehicles to maintain, six project vehicles, two project motorcycles, and a 120 year old house I think I'll keep busy. Definitely spend more time in the shop, on the road, and at the racetrack, and some time sitting on my *** doing nothing.
Retirement is the best, but you’ll find that your days aren’t long enough and the list of things to do will be very long!!
set a rocking car out by your front door and sit it in it with a nice piece of wood and a big knife and do a little whittling to get some wood particles around chair. then have someone take a picture of you. that way if anyone sends a letter or email asking how retirement is going send them a copy. retirement should not be all work, gotta have fun too.
Excellent........ although I beat you to it by one day, as my final working day was the day before, Tues 31st
Congratulations! Good luck and continued good health so you can enjoy it. Your Nash wrecker is awesome. I'd like to see a picture of your chopped and sectioned '53 Chevy pickemup.
Congratulations! I always tell people that ask me about it "I highly recommend it". Retired 14 years Tuesday.
You will have a long retirement because you have a reason(s) to get up every day and they are tasks that you choose (even the ones that are not fun). I've been retired for 17 years and it has been WONDERFUL
A peace of advice, map out what you truly want to achieve in the next ten years because it will go by faster than you can imagine.
Congratulations @bigdog, reading your post sounded like I have a twin. April 1st was my first day of retirement. Other than I'm keeping 6 cars on the road and have 3 projects in the shop. I bet your also like me that even without an alarm clock, we're both up moving before 5:30am. I hope you are enjoying being the master of your day as much as I am mine. ras
Its great when you finally get to stop going to work everyday, and then start devoting time to that myriad of projects you have! I retired when I turned 66, back in 2019, and I just turned 73 on March 28th, and I can tell you, there is a divot on my couch that my fat *** fits perfectly, at any time of the day, that I choose to re calibrate it! Congratulations from Dennis.
27 years for me , seems like a couple of years ago. like they say time fly's when your having fun. enjoy
