Wow! A trip like that makes me want a roadster again. Wait, just a second.... okay, the urge has passed and I'm better now! ;)

Have known some of the members of that group for quite a few years - they've also done several Route 66 cruises to the LA Roadster show etc. Your group has figured out that fun isn't always found at the big national meets and in parking lot shows crammed full of cars and lawn chairs; but it IS in "the drive".

    Thanks for posting!

  3. We aren't organized enough for a mailing list, just PM any of the guys you see on here including me for info and remember its always the third weekend in May in the Black Hills.

  4. Hey Chris, it would be great to see you out there in a roadster too! (when Dad isn't looking, sneak his roadster pickup out of the shop and tag along out there!!!!)

That's the plan, but I haven't got my number back from MSRA yet.

Were bringing the convertible, it's a little more water tight than the roadster. ;)

  16. We'll be flying back into town (Sioux Falls) on Wednesday night but if things look like it will a total rainout we'll probably just pack up the trailer with my first load of stuff and head back to sunny Arizona. Since I'm used to full-time sun now I don't want to do it in the rain this weekend but I'd stick around for it if we push it off to next weekend instead. Because my house is being framed right now I don't want to be gone too long but a weekend in the hills with good weather would be worth it. Pray for sun! (but the forcast looks dismal!)

A weekend with the Lake Area Roadster bunch with rainy weather is still better than a weekend at home with sun.

  18. Would like to be there but the Roadster is still apart for paint and such, hope to have it back on the road for LARS!! Maybe next year! You going to LARS? Later Dave

Nope, one trip to LA a year is enough. :)

  20. I'll be in South Dakota but on the east side in Soggy Falls loading up for the trip back. Trent wasn't kidding about the flash flood watch either! Why not do it next weekend? Top down cruising in the sun is a lot better than sitting at the motel or bailing water out of a roadster!

And miss the LARS??? LA isn't bad enough to keep me away from that.

Hey Tom, its just an improved version of Henry's Model A! :D:)

Gotta go, its time to drive down to Mesa and catch the plane. If the forcast gets better I'll see you this weekend.

  23. You are officially getting soft Jerry. But, I think all those years in the roadster have proven your toughness..................or that you are a slow learner!:D

  24. I'm getting smarter :D as I get older and I want to make every ride in the roadster be better than the one before! If the weather had cooperated I would love to be out there. I talked to Randy yesterday and he said they were locked into the hotel rooms because this hotel has a 7 day cancellation policy. A few years back we were able cancel the whole thing when a big blizzard hit and we were booked at a different motel that let us back out. I didn't make any reservations this year because the weather is so hit or miss out there in May. I really don't have a lot of extra time either since I hate to be away too long while the house is being built down in AZ and I have a lot to get done here before I head back in a few days.

Hey check this out, I just saw this on the news out there. It's snowing in the Hills! Snowfall totals so far:

    Deerfield Reservoir 12"
    Hill City 9"
    Needles Highway 6"
    Custer 3"

It looks like I made the right decision. That's the area we usually do a lot of driving in. We had the same thing happen in 2002 too but at least we got one day of good weather and cruising in before we woke up to this in Hill City.

Those pictures from last years run reminded me of how beautiful the Black Hills area is. We lived in Rapid City and Spearfish when I was a little kid (late '50s-mid 60's) and it was quite a treat to see so many familiar names and places. I remember my big brother telling me that when Pactola Dam was first filled they left all the houses and cars down there, and if I stuck my head under the water I'd see them. He lied! :D
I'd love to get back there to visit again but not in Winter! Still remember them too!
