This is mine. It's currently in banana yellow primer with a white ice pearl flake roof and Cragar chrome smoothies. full paint coming soon, hopefully. My roof rack is still in Austin, waiting for me to go get it. 289 with a 4 speed top loader.
nice fairlane, should be a sweet project, keep us updated. The best place i've found for parts is Macs antique auto parts, they have a whole fairlane catalog, http://macsantiqueautoparts.com/fair.html here's a picture of mine, good luck!
Here's mine. I have polished and installed the trim since these pictures. The wheels and tires will be changed shortly...
sorry for the spam, but i have an original set of foxcraft fender skirts leftover from when i had a '65 fairlane. they're in great shape and could be run as-is on a black car. not looking to get much (maybe $50 or trades?), just looking to find someone who could use them... the '65s are a rare bird and most do 'em up as muscle cars. ed
Turbo442 Ck out the Wings over Aces thread about a car show. Pic of 65 fairlane in primer and lowered!!!! It's behind the motorcycle
You mean this one? Funny mine is a 4 door also, but it's a 500. I prefer them with the side trim but this gets some ideas going doesn' it? Yesterday I brought home the Granada donor car. It runs really good, quiet and smooth. I test fit my Fairlanes' wheels on it today to make sure they cleared the calipers and they do, just barely but they don't rub, scrape or touch. Looks like I may be able to use more parts from it and be able to sell a few. Oh and I will take care of that quiet running thing too as the Fairlane already has a pair of glasspacks on it's duals
Turbo 442 ( do you have an olds ? ) Thats the pic.Maybe someone can shed some light on that car. I like the look
Here is my Olds; mod can delete the pict if they feel it shouldn't be on the board. Wheels are 17" Salt Flats. Engine is a turbocharged Grand National. Car was a low mile wreck when i bought it and I did as much work as I could to it with a lot of the bodywork being farmed out to the local shops as I didn't have the time to learn and then do it. I did need it finished so I could drive it after all. It is tecnically a plain Cutlass, but I always liked the 442's so I had it painted like one. On the Fairlane note, today my cousins friend asked about the Granada donor as he wants the whole car when I am done. Cool because I was wondering how I was going to get the hulk out of my place without a front suspension.
Ok, so I put my tank in that I just picked up from Big M in Williams. Primed the carb and it actually started! Nice to hear the old glasspacks rapping again. The car hasn't been started in 3 years so it was real nice to hear it breathe again, even if the valves are shot and the bearings are junk and water pump is leaking. It's ok as that is what the Granada is for. I may have to wait for the surgery as I work retail and will have NO TIME for projects very soon.
I drove a 65 iFairlane in college (Im 33 now). That was the best car I've ever owned. It was bone stock and a crap load of fun to drive. It got stacked up when some drunk moron ran into it while it was parked. Im gonna go cry now.
Way to go turbo !!! Did you seet that thread from a guy I think named georgipoo or something?? He was making a 65 Lane Drag car...
I did see it, he hasn't posted any progress though. Here are some picts after I washed it and moved it. One shot is before washing, that was the passenger side that was near a hedge.
I forgot, the wheels are from the junkyard, they were on a Camaro and had some adapters so they would fit a chevy pattern. I was going to sell them but decided to sell the Magnum's I had on the car and the spacers and put these on. I don't know how old they are or who made them but they are stamped "Japan" inside the back of the spoke. I actually came out ahead this way and got new tires to boot. The seats are from an 88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and I removed the headrests so they would look right. I may go with something totally different, later. The console is from a old AMC Rambler. I think it is cool, and I like that there are little "cups" for the seat belts. The car in the backgound is my Monte Carlo, my Grandfather bought it new. I will post a pict if anyone wants. This pict is one of our dogs, Felip, waiting for me to finish washing so we could play. He is almost 2 My Girlfriend rescued him from Mexico as a pup, he was near death, underweight and had joint problems as well as some weird skin disease. Now he is cool except for being a little stiff in the mornings, but who isn't?
In case you are wondering about the drivers door... my Dad did that when I was a teenager. He was doing doughnuts at a friends junkyard. When he did one in reverse he swung too far out and clipped the bumper of an AMC Pacer. Damned Pacer was fine other than some turquoise paint on the bumper. Dad was real upset to show me the car when he brought it home.
Her ya go... just do a search by the members name. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106023 btw, I have been going thru the trunk and finding all the extra parts I have bought over the last few years, stuff I forgot and stuff I have duplicates of. I also aired up the rear air shocks it was kind of sitting low in the back and I like thee with a little rake
Just an update.... I have made progress. I pulled and swapped the Granada 302 into the Fairlane. I removed all the smog crap, changed exhaust manifolds and put a new water pump on. This will be a nice reliable motor for now. Funny "caus with the old dual exhaust glass packs it is loud as hell and sounds like something, when it is probably one of the slowest cars we own. I don't care right now though as it will be a cruiser. I also pulled the brakes from the Granada and just need to put them on. I am taking my time and going thru the whole front end though as the last time it was rebuilt I was 18 (16 years agao!). The best part...... I paid $500 for the donor - minus $300 proceeds from selling a Blazer I got for free, - minus $175 for selling the trans -minus $40 from the junkyard for the carcass = Engine + disc brakes + $15. I still have some misc. parts to sell too, so all in all I came out pretty good. Basically my time and tune up parts, paint, etc. Before pict of old 289 and slightly newer motor. Also, I have my cool new door on from Big M.
Cool, Let me know about the brake swap and what you did. I think a place called Mustang Steve ? has some adapters that make the swap easier. Not sure....I wonder what happened top georgipoo's lane?
Here is my recent work on my Fairlane. Time has been real hard to find to work on it so I have tried doing small bites more often, an hour here three hours there. It all helps. I am installing airbags, here are the fronts with the cups welded up and bolted in, no air. Next is to finish the brakes, then move onto the rear suspension. Evrything is pretty much mocked up in the pictures. Also, I couldn't take the black door anymore so I found some aqua spray that was pretty close. The paint isn't in the best condition so I may just spray the whole thing so that it's an even color. Body work can be done when I have time. Looking forward to driving it!
I love these '65 Fairlanes! Maybe, BECAUSE they are such a stepchild. Not sure what happened in the styling department, but these Fords look like a cross of Dodge and AMC. Look at the grille and headlights, AMC. The rest of the car, well, DODGE. Whatever the case, this body style makes for a cool hot rod or low rider. Anymore pics of the wagon?
There was one of these in a leanto in Lakewood, Co, where I grew up. White insides, it was a 4-spd car and had the buckets, console and 289 hipo fender flags on it. I watched it for ever! As far as I know, it is still there...
