Here is one on ebay now. Very rare. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...RK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=130134788581&rd=1,1
Ouch! you called it an AMC and a Dodge in the same sentence, that's just wrong. I know they do look like a little like a Dart, never made the AMC connection though. One day I would love to have an AMX. I do have a console from a Rambler in it.
Pure kismet baby! Actually, I can't think of the name of the model, maybe Commander(?), the front clip looks similar. Damnit, now I gotta google up an image or two to compare!
Wish I had $2600 to drop, here's a great deal: http://www.auto-rv.com/browse.aspx?AdName=BMLKI2230331 I'd keep the coupe as a driver and try to recoup my investment with the hardtop. -Dave
The hardtop is the base model (no side trim and probably the one with the 6) Doesn't look like a bad deal though.
Man what a steal/ Find the Money. The 65 is my Favorite ( duh ) I call it Luchbox styling. You can make a Custom, a Drag Car or a Lowrider and it still looks good. I 'm Jonesing for a B/FX style
Ok so when my Cutlass was stolen it took a lot of energy out of me, mostly due to the theft but also a lot due to having to fight with the Insurance company and the people they have working for them. So I had taken quite a bit of time off from working on the Fairlane. I have been trying to get back into it and decided by the end of this weekend I would have working brakes and be able to pull it in and out of the garage as needed. So after working most of the weekend I have new brake lines, Granada discs, new calipers, wheels cylinders, etc. and the car moved and stopped by itself today. I wanted to mess around more with the airbags (they are deflated in the pics) but need to go to the movies with the Lady. At least I accomplished something this weekend. Can't wait to finish the bags. psst 6t5frlane; look in the driveway next to the Fairlane. A "down the road" project.
I didn't read every post, so I hope I'm not duplicating anything. I always thought these were great looking cars, that were overlooked due to the explosion of popularity for the new Mustang. As a result, the Fairlane dropped from sight for a while. Here is a shot I found on the net.
So I try to work on this poor car between work, home and other car repairs and projects, in other words; it takes a damn long time to get much done. But it's better than nothing getting done at all. Here is the front end almost completed. I got the shock idea from someone who posted a link a an early Merc Comet sight. The upper brackets are from a 80's F250. They bolt on which I liked in case I need to remove them later. I had them shortened about 4" and capped off at the top. A hole was drilled to mount the shock. The lower mount is just a piece of plate welded to the strut rod. The pictures were in the middle of gringing them down so they have not sharp corners. I found info on shock dimensions on Monroe's web site and went with the same shock that the Comet guy did. It had the correct amount of travel, should dampen well as they were deigned for similar size / weight cars and was cheap because it is a common shock. Shocks are for a 57 Chevy among many others. I have driven around the neighborhood a little playing with air pressures, etc and it seems to have helped the ride. It's smooth and at low pressures a little bouncy but not at all harsh even with the pressure turned up. Now, I got to get around to the rear end and get bags in there. Thinking air over leaf for now.
Turbo442 I dig the story of your Fairlane and really like the Rambler console mod. I liked mine so much I bought it twice. Here it is...
If anyone needs them, I have a friend who has one NOS ford front fender for a 65 fairlane and one excellent used one. These are NICE. I know, put it in the classifieds, just thought someone on this thread could use them. Lippy
Pretty neat. Looks solid there too. I will have to post up pics of the Fairlane when I was a kid. We had some hubcaps like that once.
MAN THIS IS A OLD THREAD, I CANT BELIEVE I DIDNT SEE IT BEFORE NOW. I LIKE THE 65's ALMOST AS MUCH AS THE 64's. I THOUGHT THE 65 FACTORY RACE CARS WERE LIGHTNING BOLTS, NOT THUNDERBOLTS? NEAT THREAD.
Solid, I think Crites calls their T Bolt parts/cars Litening bolts. There was only ONE 65 Thunderbolt made by Ford. Downey Ford driven by Darrell Droke.
i got original style motor mounts, and a c6 trans mount. I have seen alot of there glass parts though, real good stuff.
Guys excuse my newbieness. I just picked up a '62 Fairlane on the cheap by trading some parts. I am looking for ideas and also for sources of parts. I NEED front windshield and rear window for sure. Obligatory pic: Now time to go introduce myself and stop mucking up this fine thread.
Hi im triying to build my straight axle gasser out of my 65 dose anyone have a idea what width axle funderbolt is using seems like he has the perfect stance in the front ... i love the 65s too thats why i chose to build one instead of the 64 want somthing a lil dif but no offence i love all the 62-65s. 65 fairlane straight axle john kase boss nine 520 what do yall think bout my combo
I'm glad this thread got resurrected. Missed it the first time around. My '65 is an A Code Sports Coupe with factory 4 speed, buckets and console. Freshening the 289 right now. We've owned it since '81 and bought it from the original owner. Good to see so many other '65s on here.
Glad to see some love for these cars, mines in my album pics, it's the exact car same color and everything as the one my dad and mom had when we were kids. My sister still get crazy when I bring it out, when we were kids the beading on the rear seats was the property lines when we went any where in the care, we did the normal kid squabbles lol........I cant drive the darn thing and not think about all the good memories. We used to call ours the green hornet.
There is a straight axle 65 in the Arizonia area. A light blue color. I wish I had more. Maybe search around. I think it may have made it to one of the Calif. Hot Rod Reunions.
Don't know how I missed this thread, here's a drag car we built with a slight hint of the T-bolt heritage in it's teardrop hood. And here is the build thread on the GJ.... http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86935 .
Hey Wayne, I made the straight axle in the funderbolt 1 inch wider than the factory front end width. For memory it is 1520 mm wide from face to face. Cheers
