Man that motor looks sweet! I'm watching and agree with using the Cragar setup. I just like the appearance so much better. I'm trying to get an Edelbrock 4x2 setup for mine this week. I'm interested in how well yours runs with the carbs as I'll be running four Holleys on my 324. Great project!
anytime you want to get serious let me know, I have tons (literally) of spare cores and a few extra goodies to get you started
got some paint on the block and bolted the heads down, they will get painted in place Olds guys will notice all the head bolts in but no pushrods, that was the minor hold up with parts with the adjuster screw backed out and rocker slid on it's shaft you can remove and replace the push rods unlike the stock hydraulics where the rod is trapped when bolted up. had some plain steel dimpled covers so they got a shot of green to see how they'd look.. jury is still out on that one probably have to stop here for the day, the wife wants to go look at linoleum for the kitchen for Christ sake what's the world coming to?
actually we were looking at Marmoleum, it's kinda nice, I guess.. funny how every time I spend on what I think is important, I end up spending on what she thinks is important too...
this is an example of hidden cost, I ordered my push rods for another set of adjustables completely forgot I had these now I want to go with these and will have to order a whole 'nuther set.. oh well, it's good to have spares, options for future projects ya know
I think those dimpled covers look damn good in green paint. Very understated but hinting at the motor being a little more than stock. If those were on mine, I'd run them, no question. Always enjoy seeing your progress Paul. Awesome work.
I don't know.. I think stamped covers like those look best in chrome. While they look great painted, I think too much of one color makes an engine look monotonous. It's nice to have some contrast in the engine bay. Put the intake on it and mock up the carbs so we can see what it looks like with painted covers.. I'm having a hard time picturing it in that configuration.
The little roadster looks to me like the Hot Flat Head just got pulled out - Up dated to the new Rocket 88 with the Supercharger - They were still doing the flying mile then. Here in my neck of the woods we would run top end from 90 on.
I hear ya, I've already tried most every combo I have and have made up my mind but here is a few combinations to look at, the painted you've seen, chrome dimples Edelbrock Offenhauser Holmes but it will get Fentons and the Cragar intake both cleaned up and sanded to about 500 grit, not polished sorry for the shitty pictures, my phone doesn't take the best shots in the dark
Love this project! Should be awesome when finished. Definatly prefer those fenton valve covers over the painted. -DD
Wow I wished I had that problem to choose from ! I like the three pot with the crome valve covers ! Hmmm , a fun delema to have Paul !
Whoa. A piece of everything. I assume you have a thing for Rockets? I think the last picture looks great. For some reason, I like 4 carbs on a hot rod best. Nothing wrong with 6 or 3, but 4 just seems right to me.. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I know the chassis isn't done, but what better test stand than an unfinished chassis right? still waiting on a few parts but it's getting closer to fire up, one thing I did notice, surprised I didn't see it earlier the neat little chrome fan is meant to turn the wrong way.. I will still use a mechanical fan but just not this one..
found a decent starter, solenoid kicks hard, starter spins smooth, looks ok inside, no bad signs at all, it should be a candidate for a simple clean up with new bushings and brushes but when mounted in the switch over the solenoid hits the oil pan and the snout hit the flywheel no big deal right? grind a bit off the snout, modify the solenoid lever, modify the solenoid mount and make a brass strap to get power to it and bolt it in.. bada bing one little step closer again
