    '56 Olds 324, 282S Isky cam, Ross forged pistons, magneto, Cragar 4x2 intake with "Genuine" 97s, starter switch-over to clear the F1 box, '37 LaSalle transmission converted to closed drive, modified Belond headers...

    here's what the slave and bracket look like:

    progressing nicely with the exhaust, not much to see there yet

    but I did find a picture of the drilled backing plates
    again not much to see but there it is..

    Thanks man,
    it's a '61-'68 IH Travelall/pickup part, very similar to the Chevy pickup slave, same bore diameter, similar mount just a little longer bore.

    all welded up, only cleaned up the welds where visible when the body is on,
    still need to make some brackets to carry the hangers,
    and make a couple block off plates to open/close the headers..

  7. Paul, is that a breather on top of the Lasalle box or just a bolt????? Had one of those a year ago that had a bolt in the top for no known reason. Only thing I could think of was that it was some sort of injury fix from it's dragstrip days.
    Nice job on the exhaust....got to make me one of those angle whatchamacallits:D:D

  8. Looks great Paul! So glad to see you back to work on this one. I really want to see it completed.

    Isn't that a fill plug to make it easier to top up the transmission fluid?

    thanks guys

    it's an access hole added by a previous owner, I have another case with a plug (actually two plugs) in the same location.
    it is to access and drive out a tapered pin holding a shift fork to it's rail.
    the correct way is to pull the pin through the plugged hole on the side of the case,
    this takes an easy to make but special tool,
    presumably a previous mechanic didn't have the tool,
    or the threaded end of the pin was damaged or
    the original pin was replaced with a pin without threads..

    anyway
    I've gathered enough parts to put another '37 LaSalle transmission together,
    when I do I will be sure to take pictures.

    in my mind they are a perfectly viable transmission,
    they go right along with Ryan's note on the utility of simplicity,
    they work great, are easy to work on
    and when you use one they let you know you are driving an old car.

    Paul, the rolling frame looks so good it's a shame to cover it up with the body! There is a lot of weight on that 1" trans crossmember, Is there a way to put some mounts on the bellhousing to distribute the load? Or am I over thinking things to much.....

    Cross member is heavy wall 1-5/8 tube, plenty strong for the load, about what you'd see under a typical T bucket, still may add more to it though, wanted to get a few more parts to the puzzle in place to make sure it all works together

    block off plates and rear hangers in,
    body set back on and rolled outside to check fit and look.

    tail pipes still need trimming
    and will likely add another pair of hangers mid pipe
    but looks ok so far.

    hi George, it's a 282S grind
    I'm not really a cam guy, but the guy behind the counter at Delta Camshaft who did the check and clean on it had a big grin when he said it should have some real attitude.

    whatever that's worth
