I have been accused of overkilling mounts and brackets, but here I go. I really feel the tube needs a small gusset front and rear to take the strain off the weld joint. I have been told that that particular joint is brittle and requires a bit of gusseting. Really like your build.
Is your T touring going to be Olds powered ? You must be related to Ransom E. ! ! Your work is above board. Your metalsmithing is excellent. I've read your posts for as long as I have been a HAMBer, but I had no idea you were so talented. Are you going to T.R.O.G.? Hope so.
thanks Gary, you are too kind. especially when you see some of the work of the real masters here. no plan for the touring yet, but yes if something get's built of it it'll likely get an Olds, no sense going out and buying something else, with all this iron around. West Coast TROG? sounds like a lot of fun
Paul, there is a young gun who works for Austin Speed Shop and he reminds me of you. His name is Eric Anderson, but I don't recall his avatar name. He built a '24 T roadster with Olds power. I think he watched a DVD by Ron Covell, then proceeded to build a new turtledeck that looks like Henry stamped one, then sent it to him. Currently, I think he is driving an Olds coupe around the world. When he returns to A.S.S., he will start new projects and exhibit his talent once again. Keep up the superior work, and we HAMBers will be watching in awe.
He's @Anderson on here. And here's a link to the build thread of his Olds powered T: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/24-t-roadster-build.727893/ He sold it recently and bought a deuce, but the car was also featured in Hop One one or two issues ago. In my opinion, it's a killer car, and I agree with the talent comments.
x2. Great job on the build. The pic with all the engines looks like @jckc 's garage except all Chevies here in KC.
judging by Eric's pictures he far exceeds my skill level by a long shot was great that he posted pictures of his builds. hope he doesn't delete all of them, the T pictures were very inspiring.
been a little preoccupied last few days, only an hour or so a day here and there. got a few things cleaned up, painted and bolted together and ordered a couple small parts..
'ordered a Bob Drake U joint Saturday and it was on the door step this morning, I did have to modify it to fit though, the modified LaSalle output shaft has a shorter splined section than the stock Ford so I took the U joint apart and clamped the half needing massaging in a drill press vice, put a small grinding stone in the drill press and relieved about a quarter inch of spline from the U joint. put it back together and bolted the engine and transmission in for real, no more mock up, with the chassis anyway. and rolled it outside for a glamor shot..
'wasn't going to but.. I'm going to rattle can the body.. just a light coat to make it all one color so I can see what I got.. it'll save me hundreds of dollars and at least a month's time.. if not years.. and look like crap.. but I could be driving in a week...dammit
I am prime/fill/sanding pits today on the last few small pieces... 992 degrees, 312% dew point index... oh the humidity I wanted the car to have color, not primer... but not sure it's worth it right now .
After building a beautiful chassis like that, I think you deserve to have some fun with it. Well done, Paul!
Yes, 1937 Chevrolet truck gauges and 1935 Chevrolet car clock. I tried to make the clock work but it was not cooperative so I replaced the stock clockwork with a quarts unit. None of the others are hooked up yet and the temp will need a new bulb and tube.. got one around here somewhere...
Paul, you do incredible work. The proportions on this little roadster are perfect. I get excited at every new post! I went back thru this thread looking for tire sizes, and didn't see the info. What sizes are they?? (Beat ya to it Larry!)
thanks greaser, tires are 8.90-16 and 5.00-16 Firestone dirt track through Coker, I think I went with a 7" rim on the back and 5" on the front.. been so long I forget
mounted voltage regulator, fuel pressure regulator and fuel block, pulled the master cylinder apart and moved the residual valve and it's rubber ring from left bore to right and bolted it in too. mounted windshield stanchions and frame, still need to get some setting tape to set the glass in the frame. fit the column drop and painted a few more bits and pieces.
