    The ford bodies were strong but any additional braces certainly don't hurt.

  3. So will the body be welded to the frame? (In other areas besides the B pillars/ deck lid area I mean.)

  5. Oh gotcha. I remember the heavy gauge subrails you made now and was confused thinking I was looking at frame. Love what you're doing btw!

    Fantastic Work .I have the 34 no body wants..butt this build has inspired me tooo.. thanks for sharing..

Man.....this thread takes me back over the last 9 years...seven of which were building a 34 ford 5 window body from cast-off 4 door parts, some 2 door sedan stuff, shop-made parts and the aftermarket. The coupe body I bought initially was so bad I was only able to save the top! Every other piece [except some door pillars] had to be sourced from all over the U.S....but it was fun!
    Keep going, you're doing great.

    It's been a while since I've updated, honestly I haven't been in the shop much. I did manage to spend yesterday and today working on the quarter windows and a few other small patches.

    I had a donor door that I used to fix the passanger side quarter window. Worked out well. IMG_4760.JPG

    The rear portion of the roof is pretty much welded in but still needs some hammer work.

    Just a "tightwad FYI" in case you need chunks of drip rail to fix your coupe: the profile of the driprail is the same on pickups through 1937. Might need a bit of bending over your knee, but the cross section is the same. And there are a lot more rusty truck cabs than '32 five-windows.

    Did you butt weld the roof to the quarter panel? Or overlap?

    Keep going Pete. It's coming along nicely. Great tip alchemy as others rebuilding 32-5ws also appreciate that little piece of info.

    Luckily I have large pieces of xtra roof material
    With very nice gutter pieces.

    I hoping to get the rest of the roof pieces and the insert at least tacked in by the end of the week.

    Anybody know of a late model roof skin that works as a good filler??

    Look at Camaro tops, we used one on a '33 Chevy Coupe years ago and it worked very well. Bob

    I'm not sure I'd have the heart to skin a mustang roof of find one that would be worthy of cutting up.

    I remember reading that Pinto wagon roof will work. That is if they all are not all part of the earth by now.

    i used a 62 plymouth roof skin, buddy gave it to me for free, worked pretty good

    Most the mustangs here in the midwest salvage yards are usually rotted out from the door handles down. Here is the corvair switched around 180. The front of the corvair skin has curves that really conform to the rear of the 5w body. 2013-09-21 14.55.43.jpg

    I used an early '60s Volvo 122 roof for my '30 Model A coupe. Fit like it was made for it.
