A trip to the hardware store today got me three 25' rolls of 4 mil plastic sheeting that I turned into a paint booth. I'd be ready to go tomorrow but hanging the stuff over the benchI realized I'd left the grill shell hanging on the wall (with the new grill in it), so that'll get primed tomorrow, along with prepping the gas tank, and I'll shoot the body Monday afternoon. Excited.
Box fan in the door, plastic sheeting taped to it to seal the back. I hung plastic over the door as well that just lays on the door when it's propped open with the box fan. Very high tech...
Brian, make sure you got enough air moving thru there that you dont fall over dead on us! Hate to see that. My friend, a pro painter was painting the inside of a bus years ago, with regular mask, and p***ed out. Luckily, another worker noticed there had been no movement of the air hose for bit, and they drug him out
That's always the hardest part of a DIY spray booth. Getting enough ventilation air flow without creating a breeze that will carry any **** you missed in the cleanup straight into your new paintwork. Don't forget to wet the floor down to settle the dust before you start shooting. And make sure your wife or kids don't come looking for you mid spray. Ask me how I know this..........
Your booth will probably work pretty good. I did something similar a couple years ago and I still use it. I made mine with 2 x 4 walls and a frame for the box fan that the door closed on top of. I also had two box fans feeding air into the booth, but as time went on I found the single box fan for the exhaust was all that was needed. I put a furnace filter on the inside and the box fan on the outside. Send us pics of your pained parts! John
Wear a good respirator or air filer. and clothing. Iso-cyanites are NOT your friend. I have a booth just like yours.
Run your fans for a while and be sure the plastic won't **** in. Blow all the dust out while the fans are running. Let's see some shiny stuff.
That's brilliant.!!! Is anyone manufacturing and selling a concept like this? If not, they should be.......
That's awesome. I really like the sliders on the ceiling. I drew one out similar but have never built it, shop has a 14 foot wall. So the roof could hinge and fold out, outer wall loose and 2 end walls hinged. Was thinking conduit frame with heavy plastic.
Dude! Did you even sweep? How do not get **** in your paint? Please tell me your not wearing shorts and a tee shirt again.
WOW! That's very clever. I have the T'bird to paint, I really ought to invest some time and effort into ensuring that I get a decent finish on it. I don't know how many more cars I have left in me, but that's sure be a good investment. Well done.
Not yet, just 9 more days though and the shorts, sandals and sungl***es are replacing the Carharts and gloves. Work on the roadster will take hiatus while we get some home improvement projects done.
When I built mine I put a row of furnace filters up high on the far end for air intake and placed the fan in the side of a long box with a row of filters down low on the near end. Object was to try and even out the air flow.
Like a few years ago when I built the roadster, your posts got me back out to the garage yesterday and sanded everything to 220. Today I hope to go to 320. I'm in the chase once again.
