I have often said that "every time an early Ford loses its front axle in favor of a Mustang 2 ifs, an angel loses its wings" Thanks @Ryan for giving an Angel their wings back.....
Ok I'm actually going to follow a build thread entirely for once. A Hell fire spewing Y-block in a hot rod is on my wish list, so my interest is piqued.
I always thought it was cool that it had that nasty Nascar (right?) small block in it. I'd have just kept the hood shut. Or fit some "Lincoln V-Eight" valve covers on it.
So funny cuz I thought the same thing. '38 is my favorite year.... so damn slippery sexy, no need for foreplay.
It's cool that you still have the car you took your wife on your first date in. I took my wife on our first date in a little red RPU. 51 years later, the RPU is not in my garage anymore, but that same girl I married is still by my side. Good for you Ryan!
In Kansas City one fall afternoon with Ryan, the '38 and the "Mad German".....We were cruisin Kevin Lee's roadster around the neighborhood. One day at the HAMB drags, I was just arriving and was driving on the access road to the Holiday Inn when Ryan came out of the restaurant parking lot in front of me....sideways with the tires on fire! I swear the engine must have been at 8 grand.... That video was taken by my brother in my 33 pickup. T-man, my brother [janglehead] and I were waiting for Ryan to lead us .........somewhere, I forget where. The 38 was cruising the interstate at about 70 and we were attempting to keep up with my ratty ass flathead 33 pickup..... I remember the HAMB drags famous father/son face off with Ryan driving the 38 and his dad driving his Mercedes Kompressor sedan.....when the light turned green, Ryan dumped the clutch on the 38 and his dad just pushed on the gas pedal of the Mercedes............38 went up in smoke and the black Mercedes simply accelerated down the strip . I'm sure there will be many more memories to make with the new, improved 38 ford coupe...
Ryan, I just gotta know what happened to that Reher-Morrison SBC ? I hate to be nontraditional, but I just gotta know.
The car club plaque reminded me: We are the Knowbodys. We are from Knowhere. We thought everybody knew that... The Knowbodys --Knowhere U.S.A.
What is great about old hot rods is the fact that they are never finished....change them, redo old work, freshen them up. Sounds like lots of fun ahead for the 38.
Like the looks of it just as it sits ! Do any updates you want, but with this model (so cool from the factory) it really doesn't need to much. Freshen it up, and drive the wheels off of it ! (PS: For the mid-west & Texas climate..."air" would be an upgrade-must !) Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
