Folks Of Interest The $850 Hupmobile - Harold Lemay - Cruising Logging Roads In Tacoma, Washington back in the 70’s

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by trulyvintage, Jul 11, 2025.

  1. I sit down to visit with a couple of
native sons who recall growing up
    in Tacoma, Washington.
    One graduated from the Marymount
    Military Academy in 1964.
    Harold Lemay ended up buying
the property from the Catholic diocese
and growing The LeMay Family Collection.

One of the gentlemen named Joe in my interview reminisces about buying a car from George McNalley, son of Marcus McNalley the founder of Nally’s Foods that started with Saratoga Chips.
He paid $850 for a 1930 Hupmobile (out bidding Harold LeMay by $100).
Drove it home with a bad piston.
    Found pistons and connecting rods
in a junkyard and then he asked
    a former mechanic for
    General S. Patton during WW2
to replace the pistons and rods,
    which was successfully done.
Then he test drove it on the logging
    roads around Tacoma.
