The absolute worst car you ever owned

  1. I’ve owned a lot of cars over the years.

The absolute worst car was a brand new 1986 Mazda 626 touring sedan. Mechanically it ran great, electrically it was a muy grande piece of mierda! I'll never own another Mazdaradi.

    Bought a lot of used ones I really liked, these were the best of the lot;

    1973 Ford F-100 PU w/302 – Bullet proof
    <O:p
    </O:p

1976 Malibu Classic Station Wagon – Got us from Vegas to Florida without breaking a sweat.

1979 Dodge Aspen Sedan – Leaning Tower of Power, couldn’t kill it.

1988 Supercharged MR2. I wish I’d a kept this one, it was pristine, quicker than greased lightning and bullet proof. I could give the new (early nineties) Mustang 5.0s a run for their money. I was running a 1.6 liter supercharged engine putting out 140 Hp/140 Ft-Lbs of torque. It was a five speed manual; I could run it up to 90 in third before shifting to fourth. Oh yeah, 7,500 redline.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am...Absolutly the worst car Ive ever owned. Only 50K on the clock and leaked oil, had an electrical glitch. Spent more time in the shop. Guess Im not the only one, our local Pick and pull has over 20 of them.

  3. Most of the Fords I have owned have been fairly hopeless junk,
Escort and Cortina were utterly dreadfull,
GM stuff has often been no better,
But then that's kind of why people started building hot rods,
It was not because the product was wonderfull,
it was because it was so awful, that chopping it could only make things better.

Mass produced cars are made for profit,
not as a statement of engineering excelence,
hence chopping them up to build a hot rod is by far the best thing anyone could do.

A 1996 GMC 4x4. Cowboy Cadillac my ass. That piece of junk went through a 5-speed transmission (and the NV4500 was supposed to be a great transmission), both front CV shafts and a radio. And it was BRAND NEW. I only bought it because of my '65 GMC factory 4x4 that I still have. Only that one has NEVER left me standing and ALWAYS starts. Even at -30* in North Dakota at 5am. :D Just goes to show, buy old, rebuild and stay away from the new stuff that's "more reliable." My ass.

I took the head and pan off after it blew up out of morbid curiosity.
the wristpin and part of the rod was lodged in the bottom of its cylinder.
the piston, gone, rod, gone, exhaust valve head, gone.
there was a fist sized hole in the block I have to assume where all the missing stuff went.

1977 Cutlass Supreme. The car leaked water and trans. fluid. It had BAD front end vibration at 65 MPH and over.
Put it for sale in the local paper and a college age girl bought it. Never saw her or the car ever again. Thank God.

    '89 Dodge Colt Vista wagon.

Freakin' manual transmission fell apart inside. Our mechanic said that they made them with plastic keepers. The local tranny rebuilder wouldn't even touch it! Repairs would have cost $2500! Pile 'o crap!

I had a '80 pinto wagon that I bought for $200. Just put oil in it for two years, didn't do anything else, sold it for $300! Good little car, for what it was...

Hands down, my new '76 Plymouth Volare baby shit brown station wagon. It wouldn't start or run right when it was the least bit damp & it wore tires unevenly like you wouldn't believe (surely this Volare suspension thing for hot rods must be referring to something else). I think it was built with compressed rust. Rotten paint job from the factory. The slant six, which was so good during the sixties was sucked dry by the yet to be refineded polution control junk. Total crap!

Same here..but 85 Eldo POS. Ride levelers went out consistently..I found that dealer eventually gave up and just cut the wires.
Leaking 4.1 freaking head gasket from about 5,000 miles.
Electrical circuit boards would fail..WHICH WOULD LEAVE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME..which of course drained battery.
High beam sensors would fail..and of course shut down your headlights..!
Smoke pouring out from electric seats.."Supreme Sound" sounded like a cheap POS.
Sunroof..quit at 10,000..replaced 4 times. Transmission pukes at 25,000..sold the junk POS.
Only GM car I have had that was awful...

My Tahoe is 14 years old..180,000 and has need AC comprtessor..and radiator. Here in the desert..we expect AC repairs.

Damn. I had forgot and now am reminded.................
EVERY new car that I bought after about 1959 were pumped out by the Detroit fiasco, was substandard in workmanship compared to imports.

But NO! I stood firm on my belief that I should buy American. Then, about 1990, I gave up.

Since then it don't have any problem deciding, I buy ten year old cars after they have depreciated. My '03 has the Chrysler name, but it's 85% Aisian parts............

My solution? I'll never buy another production car. When the '03 craps out my Custom and my Hot Rod will be my entire stable. Problem solved.

Ugh... 1970 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa.... total... utter... POS. Me being a British car nut, and owner for many years... calling a Porsche 911 (or anything else for that matter) a POS shouldn't be taken lightly LOL...

It seemed that the 911's got wierd changes every 6 months of production to displacement, distributor types (what finally made me sell this turd), ignition types... etc etc...

The 3 times it ran good, it was a killer car. It had a full race cam, webers and headers. It sounded AMAZING... it was by far the prettiest piece of crap I ever owned. I have to admit that the interior in those early 911's weren't awe aspiring at all though. The seats had to have been out of a microbus and you could see horrible VW looking crap through out.

Never again. 1st and LAST German car.

The best thing I did with that POS was sell it to a jerk of an out of town cop. May he and that car burn for all eternity.

I've got you all beat....1976 Pacer, I took the battery out and pushed it into the weeds beside the highway after the rear diff exploded.

I traded a nickel bag of weed for it...also one of my worse trades.

84 Dodge Charger. Bought it with 45,000 miles - thought it shoulda been a decent car. In 10 months i replaced the alternator twice, water pump, timing belt idler, front motor mount, and exhaust manifold (broke when the motor mount gave up.) Finally blew a head gasket on the way to work one morning. I ended up giving it to a co-worker who wanted the rear axle for a trailer. At least it was good for something.
