So, I have been tripping over the 261 block in my shop for a couple years now. I never did get it fired up when I brought it home in the back seat of my '64 Impala.

A couple weekends ago I put it back up on the work bench and tinkered with it a bit and got it to fire off. Not having a water pump, I called my neighbor and got a good core to bolt on and run the motor for a few minutes.

Well, now that the heart transplant was a go, it was time to start tearing the '47 Advanced Design pickup down.

I pulled the front clip off, pulled the old frozen 216 and 4 speed out.

    Fender brazed to the cab:

Then pulled the bed off the next evening.

This last weekend I started cleaning up the T5 and got the 261 prettied up.

Lots more to do, but it feels good to be busy on a project again.

Late 47 I take it? I'm glad you got started on it Sarah has a thing for 40's Chevy pickups and I could have sworn I heard her hatching a secret plan while wandering around your farm.

Looks like it'll be a lot of fun like everything you put together :)

in 1978 I had a '53 five window with a hopped up 261 in it. Shaved head, bored block, Clifford 4bbl intake and headers. Hooked it up to an M21 with a chevy 10 bolt out of a Nova....went thru a lot of junk yard tires. Not a lot of top end of course, but light to light it was a screamer!

That's going to be a sweet ride. The 261 is awesome! I have one sitting around my shop waiting for just the rigt ride or winning the lottery to get it going.

That sounds like a fun one. What gray is that you put on the engine? That's what I want to paint the 292 going into my 48.

Looks like your going to need to do a short water pump conversion. The later pump is going to be in the radiator on the AD.

Engine paint is Dupli-color engine enamel DE 1611 New Ford Grey.

Yes, I will be doing the water pump conversion. I have the old 216 pump and pulley.

I have wondered for years. What is an AD truck? If I ever knew it escapes me. Nice truck too.

I have a 261 in my '51 and love it. Fenton header, Holley 94, Petronix conversion.... Saginaw 4-speed (not my favorite choice, but it works well), 3:54 gears in the rear. Tons of power and good mileage too... 15 in town and 18-20 on the road.
I've had 7 of these trucks over the last 40 years, all with inlines and this is the best combination I;ve found....

AD stands for Advanced Design, which is how GM promoted the redesigned trucks beginning in '48.

No. The T5 bolts right up to the 235/216 bellhousing. You just have to ream the metric holes with a 1/2" dia drillbit first. And trim some off the end of the input shaft.

AD could mean the Art Deco '41-'47 trucks also. :) Usually I do refer to AD as Advance Design though.
