Glad to hear it. Congrats papa.

  2. Congratulations! Now you've got to lay out a schedule for your sons to get their stuff done and out of the shop so you can start a build for the new nose-picker. Gotta plan ahead, ya know!

Congrats man! I was bummed to not have one on the road to take my daughter home from the hospital in, but she loves riding in the old cars now. I'm sure your grandson will be no different

Yea, this may sound strange, but I only even took one of my four kids home from the hospital. One got to ride home on an airplane from Russia when he was 6 months old, one did get to ride home from the hospital back to Oklahoma when he was born up in Illinois, and the other two got to ride a plane from India when they were 12 and 6. So, technically, this is the first kid to come home from somewhere near home to where they have the option of riding in something old even. :D

Great thread! I look forward to whats to come!

I always loved the oddball look of Edsel vehicles.
Saw this chopped one on a local Craigslist ad a few months back. If I didn't already have a project I might've bought it Screenshot_20210927-001114_Chrome.jpg Screenshot_20210927-001103_Chrome.jpg Screenshot_20210927-001050_Chrome.jpg

Probably a good thing that you did not buy it - I will bet that the project stalled because of the difficulty of chopping the windshield.

That was my second big reason for not getting it.
But man, it would've been so Kool. I hope whoever bought it does good with it.

My first rule of buying customs is to NEVER buy a chopped car with no glass in it.

That chop looks like butt, too. It's whacked too hard in the front.

I also have always kind of liked the awkwardness of the Edsel’s. And, now that we have one, they are growing on me even more. :D

Definitely good advice. There is usually a good reason for someone to bail out on a chop prior to it having good fitting glass. And, I agree on the chop overall. I was trying to envision it being a little lower in rear or higher in front to lose the heaviness of the sail panel on that specific chop.

  24. I'm kinda of the opinion that chopping just about anything post 1955 is foolish and unnecessary. I'm sure there are examples out there that prove me wrong, but they are exceptions, not the rule.

There are a lot of exceptions. And I think more often than not it comes to execution more than anything.

But the Edsel and Ford don't lend themselves well to chopping at all IMHO since the roof is flatter across the top, and doesn't flow front to back. Chopping it just tends to give it a squashed look. I'd argue the same for Rancheros and El Caminos as well.

But as with drinking, the same holds true for customizing, you have to...

  26. Yeah the squashed look is no bueno. The worst offender of that would be 80's square body pickups. Barf.

Also, looks like we should be able to get that suspension rebuild finished up soon now that we got through a baby being delivered, Thanksgiving, and 4 birthdays in the immediate family in the last 3 weeks. ;) This week is the last week for schoolwork for Silas prior to finals next week. So, hoping to get out in the shop some this weekend.
