The site looks just as empty as last time the guy posted in March ( Here... )

I would love to see something like the AHRA events happen. Until an event is organized it is all talk. That's not to say it wont happen, just that at this point these guys are just talking and showing off an empty incomplete site.

Livingston's gone, Bucky's got his nails dug in. There are some financial and governmental/political issues. Butch/56sedandelivery.

  6. I can a little bit. Orville Moe headed up Spokane Raceway Park since the late 60's until I think 2007. Raised around a million dollars from local investors to build the motorsports facility now called Spokane County Raceway, and NEVER EVER repaid his initial investors. Yet the track continued to operate for 30+ years. Ran into some legal trouble along the way trying to bribe the mayor of the city where the track is located, Airway Heights, and with the I.R.S. auditing him about his taxes.

After those legal issues the facility was put into receivership and all the assets sold off. Spokane County purchased the racing facility and leased the operations of the track to a group headed up by Bucky Austin in 2008.

A lot of racers hung up thye helmet for Bracket racing. It was not racing..........cause to win class.........you had to run it "ALL OUT" or you went home early!!!!!!!!!

You had to earn the right to race for the Trophy........and it was fun........I was young and I had to find all the cars in our class and right down there time as they Time Trialed...........that was the best part..............time trials run after run after run..........all out to win class................1975 AHRA World Record Holder....at the end of the year......We still got the Certificate, and The 1975 Thompson Summer Nationals Champion. For its time it was Bad Fast........D/HR 11.43ET 118Mph still got the Video........350 cu in single 4 bbl, Harland Sharp Experimental One Piece Assembly with a 1.7 Ratio Roller Rocker System........only one with it. Hot Rod Class was kind of a warmed over Super Stock with extra mods. lbs / Cu In class.

I loved the AHRA. It had the only decent flathead classes. NHRA had flatheads running against overhead valve inline engines and there just wasn't any way to beat them if both engines were seriously built. We also liked the very liberal for its time stock class rules. We could run any cam, use any transmission, put on any carburetor you wanted to as long as it would bolt to the stock manifold, any ignition, stock classes were determined by cubic inch of the engine without weight being factored in, and on and on. My partner and I used to say that in AHRA, cheating was legal. But mostly I liked that flatheads ran against flatheads. Oh, and I'm an AHRA world record holder as well.

When I do go to a large NHRA event, I go on Friday and watch the real racing, like a 32' Bantham with a 258 cube straight 6 running in the high 7's in the quarter, and turned up over 10,000 r's.

Unless I am missing some thing, I see nothing for the average guy involved in nostalgic drag racing, attempting to capture days gone by.

To veer slightly off thread, Ken Dondero won the AHRA Pro Stock Championship in both '75 and '76 driving Grumpys Toy. Im desperately seeking which major events he won in 1976. I know he won 8 of the 10 held that year I just don't know which ones. Ive talked to Ken and he can't confirm which ones. Ive talked to Jim Tice Jr. and all the old records are lost.
Any help at all, even if you know just 1 or 2, please PM me.
    Thanks, Doug

AHRA already burned their bridge here in Shreveport 2 days before the track opened!! Supposedly were 3 months behind on the track lease and wanted to open the track without having any insurance in place. The track owners terminated the AHRA not the other way around as they would like you to believe. Hope you guys have better luck with them than we had!!

  24. AHRA is not back. They are making a lot of noise but also a few problems for others. Ask Thunder Valley Raceway in Louisiana. They have already left a string of unpaid bills including the fellow they hired to get that track in the loop. He left what he was doing , stopped his business, packed up and went there working his tail off at their request and he is a very experienced fellow in track operation. When it went south through nothing he did or didnt do he returned and to date has not received a red cent in wages or expenses. I have given them over a month to straighten up what they owe him and it was already overdue. Enough already. When someone takes advantage of one my friends to the tune of $4500 plus that tears it and he is a HAMBer as well which makes him one of us. Might be a great idea and was once a super organization but with no gold and no integrity you cant even buy a cup of coffee these days. Money talks , you know what walks. How could they fix it? Pay the man what you owe him. pure and simple.

I heard that AHRA has cancelled their race in Calgary Canada set for the June 19-20 weekend, siting track improvements not done, according to their website.

RaceCity in Calgary DID NOT recieve track rental $ by last wednesday as promised...

San Antonio's new management dropped the AHRA for IHRA sanction (too many broken promises from the A, there's still a lot racers who prepaid to race at San Antonio who didn't get their money back)

This is starting to sound like a bad deal, on other forum's there are some comments of things with AHRA that dont sound good. It seems like there was a nostalgia group back in the late 90's that took alot of people and made plans that never came true.:(

Things don't look too promising if what's posted here is anywhere near true. A shame because grass roots racers have needed a sanctioning body to cater to their needs for a long time.
