I'll start a proper build thread on it. Car is a Nov '29 built deluxe coupe last registered in Oklahoma in 1970. We're the 4th owners as far as I can tell. It was sold to the second owner in Dallas in 1958 for $475 and to the 3rd in 1969. The guy we bought it from just flipped it so I'm not counting him.

The plan: 5" chop 16" wires with 8.20/16 and 550 or 650/16 Blackwall pie crust in the back and ribbed on the front. Leaving the paint alone. Pull some leaves from the front and see where it lands.

Phase 1: tear down. Remove fenders bumpers and misc parts. Pull the gas tank and clean and check for leaks. I'm hoping my local radiator shop can vat it without removing the paint but I doubt it. I have the ability to steam it out so may just go that direction.

Phase 2: brakes, fluids, gear oil. Get the engine running. Re wire with a cloth wiring kit. CHOP IT.

Today we pulled the front bumper headlights and bar and hood and unbolted the tank. Gotta get the damn cowl trim off then it should slide out.

Thanks guys. Yep. Staying banger and mechanical brakes for now. If the motor is strong I'll put a single downdraft with a 94 and header. If it's as fun as I think it will be I may build a spare banger I have and make it pretty hot with a B head or Winfield type head. I also have a 50 merc flatty that may end up in it some day.

    This ain't the ford barn!

It does seem a shame to cut up a car that has survived un modified for 85 years.

I'm not far behind. I've Chopped 3 A's. My coupe 4", another 3", Tudor 4". On this one I want to only do 1.5" but after seeing @scrap metal 48 recent post I am leaning on a real hard 5-6" chop.

This will be like most of my others, initially banger powered on nicely detailed chassis but body/paint will stay as is.

Looking forward to seeing your progress here and on IG

    Thanks guys

Joe, your green and black coupe is pretty much the entire inspiration for my car except a little more chop. Nice Job on that one.

It's pretty solid. The usual spots are good. A few bubbles here and there but there's a couple pretty big holes in the sub floor.

Got the tank out this morning. Had to remove the floor boards to get to the cowl trim bolt and ended up twisting it off. Tank is pretty bad. I'll get it steamed out today and see how it looks. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1431017527.947531.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1431017549.583794.jpg

I was going to chop mine too but all my friends said no. They were right. I love it now as an uncut survivor. Think it over good first.

I have reconsidered but It's getting the knife. 5"s. It's new life is as a hot rod. And should see many years in the road. I'm only 36 so I plan to have this car for a long time. I've been dreaming about a chopped coupe for a decade now.

Nice looking survivor. As my first project, a 1931 A coupe, I'd vote DON'T chop it.
But it's your dream so do it while it's apart.:confused:

Did a little mock up while it rains today. Blue tape is the top of the windshield after the hair cut.

I'm short but not that short. We will defiantly have to lower the seat hight. Re-thinking it to maybe 4-1/2 inches.
