What do you suppose that ran?

Superchargers ran off the crankshaft snout must have been a little more common than I was aware of.

Two guys on the crew didn’t get the memo, the car runs a Herbert cam

  6. Very common set-up in the '50s through the early '60s. The modern cogged Gilmer belt wasn't around just yet, V-belt drives had too much slippage (very tough to get sets of belts with exactly the same lengths), and the remaining alternative was chain drive but those had a host of issues and I believe they were banned for safety reasons.

Looks like Clay Smith sponsored the T shirts.
There is a lot going on in that picture.

Last year there was a 392 Hemi on Marketplace with a chain-drive blower on it.

    It looked like pure danger.

Lotsa things to think about with that set-up. Pluses include safer from eating the blower and more engine weight on the rear. Minuses include not being able to overdrive the blower and having too much set-back for Altered.

    Rear Halibrands on backwards?
I believe that Potvin offered overdrive gears for the front drive setup eventually though the overdrive ratios were probably limited.

a lot of times racers would turn the halibrands around to get proper backspacing I know my 10” halibrands only have a 2 1/2” backspace but turn them around it’s more like a 6” backspace so it can really help fitment

    Hmm...
Intentional or not, the Walt's Puffers windshield (above) appears to be flush mounted to the body.
WAY...before its time. What's that called...oh yeah, streamlining.
I guess it goes with Walt's treatment of the nose of the car.

. . . methinks it might have been running a little rich, too.
