It is a very early iteration of Leon Fitzgerald's Pure Heaven that is seen in another shot in its best known version. UPDATE: On having time to look a little closer, this is not Pure Heaven. On Leon's car the cage is more upright, the shoulder hoop is more exposed and the front end is slightly different--sorry for the misidentification. Roo
I really like it. I wasn’t sir on the engine. I’ve seen all kinds with hemis and soch. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks, guys for posting all these Awesome & Awful Fuel Altered pictures. Especially the color ones. Don Montgomery's wonderful book; Those Wild Fuel Altereds, is a great reference for Altered history and technical facts, and I've nearly worn it out, but all the pictures are b&w.
You guys might like watching this. Fast Jack Beckman did a panel interview with Leon Fitzgerald, Randy Bradford, Dave Hough, and Dave Guasco at the NHRA Museum during the 2018 Winternationals. https://bangshift.com/bangshift1320...n-this-video-from-the-nhra-motosports-museum/
In the early eighties, Bob Nylander fully and exactly restored Pure Heaven II. Bob had help with the restoration from Specialty Cars in Artesia Calif. A bunch of guys helped out. One of those was Ken Pike. Ken later purchased an old altered and, also with the help of Specialty Cars, created "Bantam Hunter". They would go together to drags and shows. This picture is also from the 1991 Winternationals. Note that Ken is wearing his Pure Heaven crew shirt.
I forgot to mention, Bob's dually was pulling the Bantam Hunter which was pulling Pure Heaven... Quite a train.
The Logghe built "Wing II " and the legendary Dodge pick up. The last time that I rode in that truck with Mousie (and Willie's ashes) it had 680,000 miles on the clock and that was 20 plus years ago. Roo
Speed Gems, I really appreciate your help. I'm really good at bending metal but dumber than a box of hood ornaments when it comes to this computer. I have more to post and hopefully my computer magic will get better (it can't get much worse).
