Yeah, its a POP...... but I get blank stares when I use Popular, found its easier to say Anglia. Then I dont have to explain. I bought the car when I was stationed in England. It was a stocker when I got it.......

Man that is hot. Love the exhaust too, good work. HAMB Drags bound?????

  12. Very cool, looks like it's coming right along.
Little confused on the Pop name though. From my English connections (Ron at The Pop Shop) I am led to believe that from 48-52 they were called Anglia's both here and in England. In 53-59 they called them Populars in England and Anglias in the states. Seeing how this car has a "clam" shell vent, not the later rectangular version, I have to believe it's a '48 and an Anglia.

nice - good to see a Pop again, not enough of 'em. Damn what was the name of that guy back 20-30 years ago who used to dominate supergas in England in a black pop? Of course, I could be remembering it all wrong, long time ago.. ;)

My car is a 49 and has rectangle opening vents. The vent style means nothing, they chopped and changed.

    Main give aways are

    Anglia=
    Chrome on side bonnet
    scuttle mounted wipers
    bakerlite dash

    pop=
    no bonnet side trim
    steel dash
    single roof wiper

  17. On the vent, that's what I meant. Was always told only 48's had the rounded, fixed versions. 49 and later rectangle opening type.
What the heck is a "Scuttle"? Is that the cowl?

    yep.

They went back to opening vents later on i think. Can never remember. I know they swapped around and there isnt a set cut off.

  19. Not trying to be anal or anything but this has been bugging me. The following is from the North American English & European Ford Registry:
"After the introduction of the Series 100E, in 1953, the Anglia price was being undercut by Morris and Austin so Ford stripped most of the already few features (like the dual wipers and Chrome trim) from the E494A Anglia, installed the 1172cc Prefect engine and sold the revamped car as the Popular, again the lowest-priced car in England at the time."
Additionally there were apparently no Populars sold in the US.

That sounds about right, seems the same as what other people have told me in the past.

    Whats been bugging you?

As i say, 2 cowl mounted wipers, chrome trim and bakerlite dash on anglias, single roof wiper, no side chrome and steel dash on pops.

Ive been told different things by different people about the side vents. I think it was just a case of using stock etc.

I had a chat about it with the sidevalve club when i had to have mine inspected, there not a reliable dating aid.

This popular was imported for the UK.
