Well, about time! All us vintage campers have been hiding in the shadows, thanks! So now, I can confess that I have a metal shop and a wood shop. Start laying in the 1 x 2's for the cabinets and structure.
Thank you Ryan,a lot of us are into vintage campers and have posted about what we are doing, some got a p*** and some got shut down, Thanks for all you do and just a reminder, the offer still stands. HRP
No one gets p***es really... some just slip through the cracks is all... One of the hardest things about moderating this place is having to delete some really cool ****. A few months ago, a guy started posting a build thread of a 1940's speed boat. It was one of the neatest things I've seen in a long, long time... and I had to delete it. With this new forum, I have a place to put it... Also, I know I'm gonna get some fear from folks. This new forum WILL NOT be aggregated to the main HAMB forum like the "traditional hot rod" and "traditional custom" forums are. So, if you have no interest in any of this ****, you will not have to see it.
Gonna have to watch this. I had three older campers, 2 were licensed & ***led. Just sold them & now can get back on the 52 Canned Ham. The one that started it all. Got more work to do but it looks right behind the 49 F 1.
Ah this should be cool! While I don't have one a the moment, I've rebuilt a couple trailers in the past. In other words before wife and kids , but now that my kiddo is getting older the lure of having a vintage camping trailer is creeping back in.
It's very cool of you to take the time to find and share a p***ion with each of your kids. A father's greatest failing can be forcing his p***ion onto his children, and it is a very easy trap to fall into. Good job dad! I look forward to checking out the camper build, and to posting some future antiquated stuff of my own. I love all sorts of old things, and occasionally mess around with something HAMB worthy, but outside of the current rules. It will be cool to have a place to land that stuff.
So this new place is for anything old, not just campers/camping or other vehicles? Like buildings, furniture, that kind of stuff?
I'm not really into old campers or camping in general, but I do for sure appreciate them. I'm tuned in. Maybe I'll eventually get involved.
To clarify... I'm not doing this just for old campers. Old campers were just the catalyst due to my son's quest to get one. This new forum is actually for lots of stuff - old neon signs, old displays, furniture, boats, motorcycles, etc... Generally, it's for guys that like old **** and wanna posts some of their finds and/or restorations.
Ryan, good on you man for taking the time to figure out that your kids are not all alike and that they have different interests, and that you want to enjoy each of them that way. Way too many dads in the past have missed that. The new forum should be cool too!
Cool. I have a 1958 Tour-A-Home camper that we bought in Feb. My wife is quite the artist and has been painting away on it as time and weather permit. At only 12 ft long, it's not a big camper but it's a huge canvas for her artwork. I'll post some pics up later...
Killer deal. We all have interests outside of old cars. This will be a great place for people to keep tabs on what other people are tinkering with. I have a '62 modern house and a ton of other little stuff that we restore. It's a lot of fun. Ryan, we visited my inlaws in New Mexico earlier this year and found this guy restoring a huge old Spartan trailer. Come to find out, he has several vintage trailers, and he restores them to rent them out. You can use your own truck, or he can rent you a truck, or he can even just take a trailer to a spot of your choice and set it up for you. This is probably the most beautiful place in the country that is not completely overrun with people. There are trails, creeks, and natural hot springs all around. Highly suggest taking a week or so with your son (or entire family). I think you'll enjoy it. https://www.nomadmotorlodge.com/
GREAT IDEA! I was 10 years old when I discovered antique cars, liked old historical stuff even before that. Oldest Grandson drove my 1912 T when he as 4, so getting them interested early on is a must around here. Someone has to wire the projects and get them on the road after I'm gone. Bob
Ryan, instead of a camper project with your son...why not a small bus to make into a vintage campingcar, more than just a camper because there is engine and mechanical work aswell, When i was a kid my dad had an old Dennis ambulance (1955) he converted into a small camping car, later on this influence led me to buy a big bedford libary bus , i lived in it for 2 years, those 2 years were probaly the best time of my life,
YES! This is a fantastic idea. Lots of us have a lot of interest in old stuff other than cars and campers seem to be a huge one.
I fished one out of the metal dumpster at the local "Transfer Station" old geezers still call it the Town Dump, it sat in my van for a week then sold at Hershey years ago. Bob
I'm really excited about this. I'm pretty tempted to start a build thread for my Triumph T100C project that I (finally) started last week...
Ryan, woodworking and camping and tieing into the HAMB...that's easy what would be cooler than an old woody pulling an old camper. I think it's great you're doing things with the kids. You'll never regret time spent with your children.
