Like Ryan said, I'm not here to bag on anyone but... this shit terrifies me... can't really explain it, but it truly enters the uncanny valley when the closer I look at something, the more I realize that it wasn't made by a human, kind of like fake eyes on a bug to scare predators.... I've seen a lot of ARGs and analog horror, SCPs and stuff, and when I look at these, It reminds more of liminal spaces and all that sort of stuff, so I can appreciate it, but not in a non-spooky way. That being said, AI is terrific at creating some of the most horrifying things I've ever seen.... As for Hot Rods? It makes me queezy when I zoom in to see the "details"?? which are uncanny because the AI doesn't have enough information to fill those in all the way. Kind of like at the end of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" when the protagonist sees the trucks coming in, thinking they're coming to help, but rather they're just filled with more pods.

I guess the fact it just appears on my monitor or phone screen rather than a robot handing me a printout smiling with glowing eyeballs helps but I understand the creep factor as some things are like a digital meltdown...words are not words...some people look like monsters...very seldom are any words correct...

Perhaps that's copyright related...to me the misses outweigh the success many times...but a number of those misses are totally editable as graphic art...

I truly find this tech struggles with vintage cars but it may get better with time...or not and as I've mentioned different programs produce different calibers of art...

I appreciate the opinions...it does have a tendency to be almost from another earth...close but different...I don't want to see that though...

Those are admirable results @moparboy440...I'll bet those put a smile on your face...;)

This tech in it's flawed representation actually is quite suited to Customs in a way...why?...because it makes cars close to what is asked but adds features that change its appearance sometimes mixing brands or changing shapes...

  13. It's soulless, fake and it's terrible. I am sorry but I don't think it has a place on the HAMB where we are looking for the ORIGINAL stuff.

I'm sorry you feel that way but it is in fact original even if created by a billion sources...no two are alike...yes it is fake...so are my Inspirations I do on the Hamb. Art is personal, I get it.

Ryan moved this Thread to this forum. I do agree it's not truly suited to this forum but I guess he wanted it off the main board. Furthur to that he actually saw AI differently quite differently than you do...

You need not visit the Thread again if it doesn't interest you...

I will say that nearly every Graphic Artist uses digital technology to survive even before AI...perhaps what your saying is anyone who uses digital technology to create art is not a true Artist. That is not the way I see it.

You could say the same thing about mig welding, radial tires...and repro parts...at the very least the subject matter is on topic. 1965 and older.

    Again thanks for your opinion.

  16. Sorry, I won't post here again, I am just wondering.
To me this AI stuff is against everything the HAMB stands for.
If a computer generated pic, that IMHO has absolutely no creativity behind it, is for you the same as a Hot Rod built with a modern welder, so be it.
I am not a painter and no graphic artist, but if I was (like Norwell and others), it would piss me off immensely. It kills one of the most important things humanity stands for, creativity that is.

Surfcityrocker, I share the same feelings as all Artists and yes I am myself an Artist. Some would question that but I have taken many post secondary courses to nurture my gift to draw...

My drawings...some are off topic to the Hamb but Art deco in influence and we are in the Antique Forum so I will share some to give you a look. Pics or it didn't happen right...

I mean no disrepect to @Jeff Norwell, @Jigger, @Spoggie, @hotrodjack33, @GaryC, and the plethora of Artists here at the Hamb...some of them have already commented on it here and in Ryan's Thread expressing their thoughts...myself included...

No Artists here are going to be fooled of the origins of this work...especially based on your opinion of it being "soulless, fake and it's terrible"

I too point out it's lack of creating correct imagery...I have spent hours editing some to present them because they can't do vintage Hotrod/Custom well...

So just letting you know I don’t mention Artists names in my requests...I ask for the subject matter and a medium...period. I still have every bit of creativity I can use any time I want and still do. I can't speak for the others but suspect they are armed as they always have been with every bit of creativity they were born with.

What AI uses to generate is beyond my knowledge other than it uses information...maybe all of our shared www imagery...I don't sign it unless I mod it and again, don't mention these Artists in conversation or creation of it, however I called them up now to let them know their names have been used in reference to what is being shared here...

I look at this as a tool/novelty and I keep this off the Art Show proper...as it's controversial as art...as noted by you and others reactions to it...

The Red 57 Ragtop at Bonneville shared earlier in this Thread I edited over several hours to present and shared the originals...I guess that isn't even acceptable nor Art...still not original just cleverly modified...

Again it's a thing I have to live with too...I haven't sold Art in years, but I'm not really pushing it either...haven’t stopped my love to create either...and the other Artists will have their own views and adjustments if any to it being present here and everywhere...

I did this mix of AI and Photoshop for @Spooky the other day...I edited the creation over several hours...no disrespect to anyone...

    SantaSP-2.jpg

I gave it to him to share. I told him it was an AI image...edited by me...

Thanks again for your views regarding this newly emerging visual technology...

We are all Hambers and entitled to have conversations about things we share here.

  19. I've tried AI once on a pretty lame platform. It spat out some wierd looking cars and manicured supporting landscapes. The scope is breathtaking- prepare for a bombardment of fictive realities masquerading as real.
The irony is that along with this dramatic expansion of expression comes a parallel decision by me to limit my personal universe. With all that is transpiring, I'm happy with my client base who like what I do (classical painting & drawing)- they continue to support me.
My beautiful niece gifted me some expensive watercolor tubes for Christmas. I look forward to hitting the streets and recording backgrounds for car paintings. I will work as my favourite old artists did 150- 200 years ago, whilst the AI tsunami leaves me in its wake.

Thanks @Spoggie for your kind words and thoughts regarding my personal hand and your experience about and with AI. I will never abandon my artistic mind that pushes my creative hands...I do find this offers an editable graphic option especially as you noted stuff gets left out such as the prop...I did edit that image improving the Zephyr and the prop.

I feel less threatened by it now. That is due to its inability to get cars and other things right. That may change over time as it may... improve. I have made a decision to push this platform to give whoever cares to look at what it can give us regarding 1965 and older in Hotrod/Custom...

I always look forward to seeing you sharing your visually stunning Art and conversation at the Hamb ..I feel honored to be amongst such an accomplished uniquely diverse group of Artists here...

    See you again soon...

Thanks Jack, yeah, someone went back in time and stepped on a butterfly and changed things a little...sometimes it actually spells things right but not often...:)

AI really misses the mark with the description many times with results from spot on to down right humorous...I also find even if the interpretation is way off it may still be a positive...I mentioned Lion's Drag Strip in my description and I truly got more than I was expecting...

As Jack noted the spelling is many times completely foreign but again an easy Photoshop edit...

...As I've mentioned before AI's ability to give a truly correct visual response for example to a 55 Chevy lends well to creating a Custom...this is another great candidate for a trip to Photoshop to tweak it...maybe raise it add skirts, shave the hood, french the headlights, I mean the you have a great base for nailing a winner either visually or in full scale...;)

I really think its a wonderful offering from the number crunching, worldly connected picture maker...imagine the sound...

A friend shared an image of a late 40s early 50s GM pickup someone converted into a bed the other day...I thought to myself I'd rather have a 59ish Caddy repurposed as a bed...the elegance of the Cad I thought would suit a lavish room to showcase it in...here are a few samples and the image of the truck he sent...funny I said to him that I wondered it that was AI as well...dunno...

A pretty complex tool with very little learning curve...and yes it can be very dangerous and potentially alter if not end careers but as an Artist myself as you...I feel as powerful as this is with my mind and fingers...I couldn't pump out content as this does at 4 in less than a minute...but it will never stop me as I will always have my personal edge I hold very dearly as my gift in what I have nurtured through the life I continue to experience...

I have quite a collection of my creativity gracing my and others walls who have acquired them...we just have another thing that pumps out a thought...but it still has severe shortcomings giving opportunities in our ever-changing graphic evolution...

I am deliberately keeping these out of my Art Show contributions...I will appreciate them for what they're worth here...I am pretty discerning...getting this tool to think back to the past is always a challenge it seems...
