  1. Hey Guys and Gurls,

Now that this Fridays's Art Show is up and running, I thought I would provide a little extra eye candy.

One of my goals of the '04 hunnert Car Pile Up was to record some of the Pintriping and Lettering that was bound to show up.

There were quite few "Heavy Hitters at the show too, that I did not expect to see and was awed when I ran into them. I am a HUGE fan of the Art of Pinstriping" and can watch people do their magic all day long. I've been known to stop what I'm striping to watch another guy two cars over at a show. [IMG]

There was alot of cool work at the show and unfortunately I didn't get all of it. Definately next year.

I got about 24 pics going in to this, so I hope you all ENJOY.

First up was this neat '47 Chevy Sedan Delivery with nice script and "Brush Casual" lettering.

  2. Here's some pics of a real nice chopped Chevy. The work was done by Brando of Gurnee, Il. This guy is one of the Greats and a good guy.

  4. Brando is one of the best "Script" lettering guys around and has a ton of different styles. He's also fantastic with a airbrush too.

  5. Here's what I call "Nice tight work".

  6. Very nice lettering and striping on this "A", artist unknown. [IMG] You can tell this ride still has it's Friday "Driving in the rain" finish. [IMG] [IMG]

  7. Here's Detroit's Jeff Sheas' work on the "Voodoo Child" '40 Ford.

  8. Here's Jeff himself layin' some lines on a '62 Chevy. Jeff's a great tattoo artist also. Very talented guy.

  10. Here's a pic Of Kenosha, WisTexas pinstriper Big Nick. He was a vendor at last years Pile Up too. My goal was to talk to him and I hope next year I will. [IMG]

  11. This was my "Favorite Hot Rod of da Show" ride. Very cool car and just so happens to be striped to death. [IMG] Who done the work?

    Attached Files:

  12. I really liked this! Do you know how hard it is to make red striping look good on white? [IMG] This had great design work.

    Attached Files:

  13. This candy orange chopped "Baby Lincoln" has thee nicest pinstriping I've seen. The trunk is just fantastic. I didn't get a pic of it though this year. [IMG]

  14. This is a pic of a very special person in my pinstriping life. His name is Will "Jive" Jarvis. He was instumental in steering me in the right direction when I started out.

This guy is a true "OG". He's a BIG name in Chicagoland striping history. A quality guy.

    ..........nice stuff. Thanks Pete!

  16. Here's a good shot of the HAMB "Meet "n Greet" banner. What really made this special is the original artwork by our own, Tuck.

I reached out to him for some help on account I can't draw cars worth a shit. He came through like champ.

    Can you spell Gracious? [IMG]

  17. Here's something I love and didn't get enough pics of: Carclub Logo's. Here's a great one!

  18. Nice banner, Joel...and you're right about that red striping being really clean! [IMG]

  19. Here's a neat pic of Larry Von Grobe's WILD Chevy custom. Larry did al the work himself and striped it too.

Here he brought in Brando to handle the amazing trunk work.

    Attached Files:

  20. Here's a pic of Brando himself. I ran in to him with his family checking out the show.

In the very early '80's, he worked out in Cali and is responsible for most of the lettering on the top Funny Cars running back then. [IMG]

  21. Then we both run into Jack "the Italian:" Giachino out of St. Louis. Jack is a superb striper. airbrush artist and painter. He is also quite the author, with numerous articles in Signcraft, Auto Art, and Auto Graphics magazines.

  22. Hey, let's take a break and look at a Hemi powered Hot rod! [IMG]

I love Hemi's in Hot Rods!

  23. Here's a pic of me and Jive with a very special friend of mine.

The guy in the center is Jimmy McCarthy. Jimmy is one of the best Lettering designers around. He does many of the top Midwestern Stock Cars and is a great guy. He was a big help to me in getting all of my Pile Up signs done.

His Father was a one of the old time Chicago hotrodder and racers. His Dad knew all the top Stripers and Lettering guys from "Back in da day" and Jimmy grew up around all that.

I remember when he used to hang around my old shop watching me trying to fake it with the best of 'em as a 12 year old. [IMG]

Do ya all notice 2 things we all have in common in thes pics: 1. We're all wearing really cool T-Shirts and 2. There's a bunch of cool cars all around us.. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Attached Files:

  24. The last of the Striper pics shows me and Jive with a Young Gun known as "Spaz". I know of him from the Chrome Czar board.

He was striping a ride for one of the "Blacktop Barons" and we befriended him. He was a very respectful young man and shows a lot of promise and desire for Pinstriping.

I wish him well and would help him any way I could.

There's about 75 years of striping experience making Spaz nervous in this picture. [IMG]

  25. The next 2 pics show some very nice Auto Art in the form of Flames w/ pinstriped outlines.

Yep, MarkX's Chebby is becoming a true famous HAMB ride like Butt Reynolds '56 Chevy. Who coulda thought Pea Green primer with Blue Metalflake flames outlined in white would look soooo good! Bravo! [IMG] [IMG]

  26. Yep!

  27. Sometimes ya find some cool art in the least expected places. while "Wiping the Dew Off the Lily" very late in the day I spied this in one of the Racetrack facilities [IMG]

    Attached Files:

  28. Close up of the artwork by a unknown artist. I can only imagine what sparked this burst of "Artistic Endeavor". [IMG] [IMG]

My only regret was not "Liberating" the door with a few handtools for a more proper venue. [IMG]

    Attached Files:

  29. That's it everyone! I hope ya all enjoyed my little artistic adventure at the Pile Up '04.

    Till next year! [IMG]

Joel,, Thanks for the picture tour. I'm going to make it to the Pileup if I have to hitch a ride next year. I had plans to go but "things" got in the way again this year.
