Hey Bryan, I would like to hear that story I have a pic in my head of you ripping up a back road with the cop car on your tail , lights and siren blazing. Just made my day
Rods like that need to be preserved/driven. If/when/where it breaks down you have no idea how much fun/adventure it will be. Gary
It really was kinda cool.... Driving with the Mrs. up through the high desert to Ed Iskenderians birthday party. About 8 AM on a cool desert morning, the sun coming over the horizon, cruising on a 2 lane. Started to get in the moment about WOW, this desert scene, the sunrise, cruising in a 32 roadster on a remote 2 lane, kinda in a surreal dream. Coming at me, in the distance I see another vehicle with an unusual profile... maybe another old car but its got something on the roof. Damn!, this Hudson Hornet police cruiser whizzes by. So Im beside myself as this perfect hot rod daydream come true. Driving the next few miles thinking about what just happened, I look in the rear view and holy cow, there he his, on my tail. Now I can't tell a great story, but imagine driving this car, desert highway, not another car in sight, and a Hudson cop car in your rear view. Chilling cool. We both pulled over as I just had to grab some photos. Turns out he missed the turn off to Eds place and was lost. He saw me go by and did a U figuring thats where I was going. We drove up the hill to Eds together. A great day indeed.
Confession time Truth be told I haven't always put Cabs at the top of "my infatuation" for 32 Fords' list and I have never been accused of being overly traditional, but this car is about as cool as they come. As the new caretaker of this car; it looks like you are carrying the torch for Roger perfectly. You can tell just by seeing the smiles on your faces.
It found me. Long story short, my nephew works in a shop that did repairs on Rogers import cars. Roger mentioned it to him, he mentioned it to his dad (my brother in law) and through him I heard that the car was potentially up for sale. My BIL and I had been discussing the transaction for several weeks, so I was somewhat in the loop. Details had been established and it became clear that my BIL was going to let it pass. I was shaking when he said, "you can buy it if you want". My first instinct was to do whatever possible to get him to buy it, but it wasn't in the cards. I will never forget the excitement when I knew that I was in line. But there were a couple others too. Luckily a couple faded out of the deal and it was between me and another person that Roger knew. I understand that the other fellow was helping Roger establish a price. One way or another, it was my moment. I had never seen the car and pulled the trigger. Cinderella Story.
Man, this story, reading all those old records, the photo of Roger and that pic of Hudson fuzz car in the rear view mirror in the desert really make you feel like you're back in time. Thanks for putting us in the moment..... The HAMB rules!
Stories such as this are meant to be shared and appreciated by others. This man and this car had a special relationship and it has now been passed on as good example of leaving "things better than you found them." If there are new chapters, please share them with us and Roger. Thanks Carp
beautiful car! could you take a couple measurements for me?? if you look at my AV, I've got a 5 window that was cut down in the late 50's... i'm trying to figure out some better lines for the car as I don't think it has "the look" at the moment. could you give me a measurement of the door length and height, and the length of the quarter from the b pillar to the wheel well?? thanks...
Hey Kev, I'll be at my shop tomorrow and will get some dimensions for you. Your looking for the door heights, is that all? Jeff
thanks jeff! length and height of the doors and the distance from the back of the door to the wheel well on the bottom of the quarter. was just talking about your T with my old man last weekend! been a while! any progress on the cabrio??
I sold the T this past fall. It went to Long Island. Progress on the cab has been slow. I just picked up a few key elements yesterday which should help speed things along. Things like solid cowl panels, original rockers, original B pillars and a door...all with BOTTOMS!!! Now back to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.
Just felt compelled to bring this thread back up in case others may have missed it. I recently met Bryan and his lovely wife and like his Cabriolet, both are extremely cool and steeped in hot-rod history. Hope everyone enjoys this story as much as I have. The part about the Hudson cop car is so much fun...........Don.
Hey, Boss. Don't beat yourself up because you drive what many of us want to. I so wish my '02 King Ranch was worth a truck similar to yours. I would a/c that ride (because I am a puss) and never look back. A $500 a month payment is so much more than an occasional couple hundred for maintenance ever so often, and you are driving vintage tin! All your F-100 needs is a SBC. LOL Great article on the Cab.
