This is a Bad Idea, but it it just keeps calling to me. I have a perfectly good Model A coupster project waiting for me, but this one just keeps reeling me in. I have just seen so many Model A hot rods. I need something a little different. Fenderless. Hoodless. Still pre-48. Hopefully still quick. Still using early hop-up parts.....Just not Ford parts. What I have is basically a cowl top and firewall to a 29 Plymouth. What draws me into this is the scalloped reveal on the cowl top. Everything else will be found or fabricated. Body will be completely fabricated, but I am on the lookout for a decent frame (28-30 Mopar). Will have a Double -dip axle. 41 Desoto Flat6 and 3 speed manual. Rearend out of the same 41 Desoto. I am repeating, This is a Bad Idea.....I shouldnt even put up a build thread, but Im hoping it will keep me on task. Hopefully Ill have something to post every few days....
I would think a Guy with a nice looking FE on a motor stand and a Good Looking Dog would be smart enough to just say No!! No*****, that is. Let's see how this turns out. The Wizzard
I actually thought about doing that to the Model A, but I still wanna do a legit AV8 and actually have a lot of the parts for it. Everything I learn from this project will be used to do the AV8 right.
I really like that unique cowl....sure would look nice when finished, and very different...I like it!
Oh boy, does that ever sound familiar. My roadster project started out with This 1919 Buick Cowl that I bought at the Yakima Model A club swapmeet about 27 years ago for 10.00 simply because I hadn't found anything else to buy that day. Vince Alcott (sp) who used to sell at Turlock and other swap meets convinced me I needed it when one of his buddies had it for sale. The plan is the Buick cowl, late 20's or early 30's Chevy frame narrowed in the back, Chevy pickup axles with 18 inch 30 something Chevy wires and a 254 Ford flathead that a fellow Hamb member donated a few years ago. Most body parts are out of the scrap pile out behind the shed and not a whole hell of a lot will be bought new except tires and other things that need to be new for safety or reliability.
Well, shop heater is on hiatus....So I shifted gears to what I could do in the warmth of the house. Todays project was building patterns for a buck I'd like to use for a 32 Desoto style barrel grille I'm thinking of using for The Bad Idea. I have a few more pieces to make on top and I think Ill have enough information to start forming steel.....
Would you build me some patterns for a buck? That is a real reasonable price and I don't know how you can do it for that 'cause it is such nice work. Liking the idea of the six a lot. Get that heater fixed....
I just about fell over when I saw the picture of your dog. Wish mine was still here, don't know what make and model he was but we thought Black and Tan hound with Labrador retriever. Enjoy every moment with yours. Looking forward to seeing your progress on this build and more pics with that beautiful dog. Cheers.
Suppose I could put some figurines on the plywood buck when Im done with the grille surround. Ha! Had to read that a couple times before it sunk in there, Windup.... The make and model on that pooch is German Shepard/Lab mix, the Pound Special. He goes with me everywhere, and always seems to find himself somewhere in the picture!!!!
