    Steve,
The engine is not new, but looks really good inside, I think it sat for some time

    reddy ,
then go back & loosen one (rod or main) at a time , retightening as you go , untill you find the tight one .... bummer ....... maybe check the distibutor ......steve
dumb question , did it ever rotate ? is it in gear ?

  11. I'm running an "A" halibrand. The one I have was used in sprint cars the one used in midgets uses a thinner pick off gear (change gear) I believe the one for midgets used a 1" wide gear and the one for sprint cars used the same width as the V 8 . This information was from Joe Mac The Kiwi "A" quickchange patterns are for a later midget. I bought mine in a "basket" and had to do some machining on it . The Main modification is to relieve the differential carrier so it will clear the lower shaft. No machining on the ring gear. Most of the problems with the "A" rear end is from the pinion climbing the ring gear and cracking or breaking the case. The one I have has been welded a few times in that area. This problem is solved by installing a snubber in the axle housng. When you load the rear end with a lot of torque the ring gear pushes away from the pinion and the pinion tries to climb the ring gear and something has to give. The V8 has the saddle bearing and it supports the pinion. The snubber stops the ring gear from moving Not hard to do and now is a good time to do it. If you don't plan on stressng it too much it is not necessary. I have a friend that ran one on the street behind a SBC in a 29 tudor

I just finished replacing the stock Model A engine in my 1930 CCPU with a rebuilt Riley Two Port inserted and pressurized Model A Ford engine. I would like to install an external oil filter on this engine, but am unsure of which type to use based on other past experience. If any folks have any photos of their installations I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  13. This is a Kiwi but basically it is the same as the "A". This should be the only modification required. I used a manual from Speedway and assembled it with out gaskets as to their instructions.http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2777973360049181497MptMFw

Jim Brierley, 4portriley on the hamb, wrote on article in the F.A.S.T. (Ford A Speed Technology) magazine in 2005 on building a Model A halibrand and the modifications needed. Its a great article that I followed when building mine.

I used the new inserts for Model As from Antique Engine Rebuilding for the mains and British Leyland inserts for the rods.

  19. Can you give me the specs for the rod inserts?
