    1964 Grill,is it a 64 or a 65 Ranchero? Looks to be a solid starting point!! ROY.

  2. It is a 64, originally a six cylinder car converted to V8. (302)

  3. So this is what you do when you're not babying the Caddy. ;)
Good luck with that paint stripping!

  4. I like to keep busy so I usually have two or three projects going at a time. That way when I run out of parts for one I can just switch to a different thing to do. Reminds me of when I was working where I had to juggle hundreds of jobs per month with nine to fifteen people. Only difference is when something goes wrong I have to take the blame.:D

  5. This is enough for now, parts for other projects should come today. Clean up the mess and move on.

  6. Had some time on my hands so I decided to finish stripping the Disco yellow paint off the little car . It's slow going as there are a total of four different layers of paint to go through. So far I haven't found any major body repairs and the sheet metal is solid. DSCF2443.JPG DSCF2443.JPG DSCF2444.JPG DSCF2445.JPG DSCF2447.JPG

  7. Good looking truck. HRP

  8. Thanks Danny, I bought a new 65 when I was 19. I hope this one turns out to be as good as that car was.

So are you going to paint this Prairie Bronze like your old one? I love that colour with a Palomino interior.

  10. it will be the Prairie Bronze with a black interior, I'd like to use the palomino interior but it is black now and that part is like new. I think stripping the black paint and re- doing it in the palomino buff would be hard to do and it's in excellent shape. The car sat under a shed with a southern exposure for a long time and the yellow paint cracked and peeled but the P/O covered the interior with bed sheets so it survived very well.

If my '65 HT didn't have a really cherry red bucket seat interior I would paint it Prairie Bronze. Really like that colour.

  12. I'm thinking that with the newer paints it should really pop.
A poppy red on red hard top is a very pretty car.

Enkei's and T/A's. Ah, that takes me back. Fill the bed up with water and throw on some Def Leppard and it'll be like a hot tube time machine.

  16. We used t do that in the service, only with a Gamma Goat.

  17. Bringing this one up again. Finished an O/T project for my brother after two winters work on it so now back to the Ranchero. Got it out of the corner and ready to go tomorrow.

I might be the only one that thinks this is cool, so you can just file this under "crazy things people do to Rancheros".
Somebody put a 4 cylinder Cummins diesel in this one, and the camper is interesting, as well.
It's not the first time someone's gone oil-burner in one of these. I once saw one with a 6 cylinder Nissan diesel like used in IH Scouts.

Paints and primers have changed a lot since I used to paint, trying to figure out what to use for a bare metal conditioner before I put primer on it, final finish will be acrylic urethane.

  21. Most of the yellow paint is gone, now to clean it up and fill the dings.

  22. Finished up the body work and started removing the doors to strip and clean up the jambs.

  23. More progress, stripped the door jambs and cleaned up the window openings. Almost all of that yellow paint is gone now along with the three other paint jobs under it. I'm happy with what I found under all that paint. Only one small patch of rust down low on the rear of the right quarter and small dings to fix. You found a really solid car, pics with the yellow paint it doesn't look like it sat for 23 years. No surprises is a good thing.

I really like rancheros, helped a friend do a 302, 5 spd swap years ago, but have never owned one. Brings back some memories seeing one apart. Keep the updates coming.

Cool little Ranchero.. Just picked up a 64 Hardtop myself.. I really like the 64/65 body styles.. Your doing a fine job on yours.. Can't wait to see it painted...

  26. Spent the last couple of days working on the doors and getting the black paint off the package trey and dash. The door seals were stuck on with a combination of weather strip adhesive and rtv silicone, the rubbers pulled loose easy enough but the residue was a bitch to clean off.

  27. Started putting paint back on, feels good to finally get done with the part where you take it off. There's no easy way, just a lot of hard work. Was removing the jockey box door to clean it and paint it the interior color that goes with Palomino seats and found the radio delete plate. painted some of the parts yesterday and today' DSCF4210.JPG
