"the motor was modified-no longer a super-tall stack. The car emerged pretty much identical save for the stacked motor."

Barris stopped making cool cars in the early 60s after that it was just money not style.

  15. It originally was built with 3 blower shells stacked on top one another as Barris often did with his goofy stuff. Two were later removed.

Pretty crazy. When you consider the awesome cars that Sam Barris was responsible for, i.e. the Hirahota, Matranga, etc. and the cars George was responsible for, i.e. the Tast T Freez and the Bat mobile, its hard to believe they are brothers. Im not a George fan. They should be more specific and call it a George Barris Kustom so as not to drag Sams name down.

Awhile back I saw George barris on tmz driving a gold color customized prius even the camera man was like "this guy created the batmobile and now his driving a prius"

  19. That is a very skewed view of the facts.

Here is an early 60s example of George's restrained work.

Boy, old George gets a bad rap sometimes. This car and a lot of the ones he did in the mid to late sixties were promo cars for companies, movies and TV shows. It's what customers wanted him to make. He may not have even liked them, but he was paid to please a customers wishes. Is that really so wrong?

All his stuff was fun...it's supposed to be fun...as a kid there was nothing cooler than the munster coach, and dragula. I lot of kids turned into hot rodders because of his stuff. Thats all i'm sayin'

well said. I dont wanna be off topic but that sounds similar to a motorcycle company that is in style right now making "sponsored" bikes. It is what makes them money and pays the bills. Anyone could understand that..

The burger mobile is not for me though...

    THANK YOU!!!!

You know i see George at least 3 times a week and yes he did do goofy stuff.. but i'm
digging through archives of photos and have whole lotta images of george out there busting his ass on cars just like everyone else at the shop..on top of marketing, Photography and
keeping the shop alive.. he was a power house.. and we gotta remember the times were
crazy when all this goofy stuff was going on.. You can't diss George..that's like making fun of your Grandfather.. He is a legend no matter what he built.. RESPECT HIM.

    thats all..

Interesting thread..the "T" has only one bid at this time at 20K and the "Ghia" has multiple bids and its over 200K with the reserve not met ! George sure was prolific!
