Early 80's for me... Seen them twice at Pine Knob... 1st time I went, it started pouring rain in the middle of California Girls... We were dancin' like fools in that mess.. :)

Best Beach Boys concert was at the SEMA show in the late seventies. Stage was surrounded by deuce coupes. The played in Durango two years ago and we went expecting a tired bunch of guys, but the concert was great. Mike Love was on his game that night. BTW, he will be 70 in March.

Saw that movie a few years ago. Seemed pretty close to what happened from what I've read about them.
I remember when Pet Sounds came out. I was about 14. Blew me away! I still listen to it from time to time.
If you guys haven't heard them, go to youtube and look up The Fendertones. Closest thing to the Beach Boys you'll find.

was worth the watch just for the cool cars, and surf chicks. like 'em now or not they had a big impact on the music world. if you still think surfing is cool check out the memorabilia For Sale here under Misc. Section

The Beach Boys music had a big impact on me and they were probably the catalyst for many garage bands in the 60's.

I enjoyed the movie but the 2 hour movie that last 3 hours because of the commercials,,got old. HRP

I liked it. The music was good and it was a trip down memory lane to see the cars of that era.
I was surprised to see them driving so many foreign sports cars and not hot rods, although I love Ferrari's, E-type Jags, Healey 300's, etc.
Back then I had a TR-3 and the luckiest and richest kid I knew had a Lotus Elan.

Enjoyed the cars. Always enjoyed the Beach Boys. Never knew Mr. Wilson was such a controlling *****.

  24. That part of the movie is actually very correct. Most of the Beach Boys were not really into hot rod's. Hot rod's, and surfing, was just a "tool" for their songs and image.

I think it was Al Jardine in an interview some years back that most of the guys did drive around in foreign sports cars and Brian Wilson interviewed real hot rodders and car magazines when writing the songs for the correct lingo and what was trendy. I think the same was pretty much for the surfing songs also.

The BB were in all effect, a "made up" persona - a 60's version of the manufactured 80's and 90's Back Street Boys and New Kids on the block.

I waited to see the BB at a concert at the Ohio State Fair back in the late 70's. We waited for nearly 2 hours as they were late and had to leave(actually parents want to leave to drive home). Sorry I missed it to this day.

  25. Murry Wilson, Brian, Dennis, and Carl's Dad, was a monster.
You know the reason Brian could never, even to this day, hear his music inn stereo? because his dad smacked him with a 2x4, and made him deaf in one ear...
If you like to read, read Brian's autobiography, ***led, aptly enough, "Wouldn't It be Nice"... it's a real eye-opener, I always thought it was happy, hot rods and girls and surf and girls, and warm fuzzy, but underneath, it was anything but...The book also puts to rest what kind of car it was that made the revving sounds at the beginning of "409" ... and it wasn't a 409, or even a 348....

  26. Wasn't it Brian's 327 Impala???
