OK, I'm not proud of this, but I'm that guy that squeals like a little school girl whenever bees or hornets are around. Well, maybe not quite that bad but they freak me out. So I have this beater of a '57 GMC pickup parked outside. I only use it occasionaly to run to Home Depot or picking up landscape stuff or going to the dump. The hornets have made a home in there somewhere and I need to get rid of them. I've already been stung once while laying underneath the dash working on wiring. I'm definitely not going to be poking my head in and around tight spaces trying to find the little bastard's nest. I just tried the smoke bomb type bug killer, but not convinced that stuff was strong enough to kill them off. Any other suggestions on getting those guys out of my truck for good?
Get some of the foaming bee/hornet killer and foam any openings you see where they might nest. Bang on areas with a long stick to see where they emerge, the foaming stuff has a pretty good range so you can stay clear
Match in the gas tank will do the trick. really though. if you don't want to handle it yourself just call any exterminator. they'll come out and take care of it for you.
If it is the mud wasps, look for their nest-tunnel things up underneath on the frame rails and other out-of-the-way areas with flat surfaces. A pressure washer is good for blasting them off. Have somebody ready with some spray or something. Look for them in the evening when it is cooler, they are a bit slower then. Your best bet is to shake the truck and watch where they come from and go to after they settle down. Don't be skeert..
Wait until it's dark out, roll up all the windows & empty a spray can full of wasp-b-gone or whatever into the cab, shut the door and go to bed. Next morning, open the door, sweep the bodies out and keep the windows open to air things out. Bees, wasps, etc always go back to the nest at night, so by waiting until after dark, you should get the whole colony.
ive heard of people covering the car with a tarp and then bombing the crap out of it...sealing the tarp so it creates a bubble of death
Aw, just release a bug killer/fogger in your cab and come back a few hours later, you big baby. Maybe one in the engine compartment too. Besides, if you don't kill them and sell the truck, they'll just move into your shed or house. Wasps love things that don't move with lots of crevices. You should also drive it more.
If you find the hole where they are going in.... get some spray be it bug spray or starter fluid... arouse them and start spraying the hole.... WHATEVER YOU DO, don't stop spraying the hole till they quit coming out!!!
My '38 sat in a pasture for 30 plus years. There were old nests in every conceivable nook and cranny and some that defied description. I can't imagine how they discovered the route to get inside the headlight buckets or inside the speedo housing. The ideas already given all work more or less but I prefer the Orkin Man because the chemical residue from the foggers is a bear to get rid of.
If you want to look around for them, do it very early in the morning, while it's still fairly chilly out. They're VERY lethargic after sleeping all night, and you can move around with a fair degree of safety. If the windows and weather stripping is good, and you got hit inside the cab, they've found a way in through a rusty floor, a decent hole in the firewall or the cab corners. See where they're coming in from, and nuke that hole right away to hinder them from coming and going. Then bug-bomb at night. -Brad
OK, that's and easy problem to solve, but let's back up a half step to the thread title. I hope you are not seriously considering selling the truck because it has a bee's nest in it somewhere are you? Regardless, what ever you do, don't blow your truck up or burn it down with flammable stuff or inadvertently making a bomb and that might be easier to accomplish than you might think. People blow up their houses doing this same thing all the time. Use whatever, but use some common sense and don't get all crazy about it. It is just a couple of little bees. Be careful and just take a second to figure out where they actually are and spray some stuff on them to kill them or make them want to leave and not come back and then seal up the hole or whatever if possible. They might be on the frame somewhere. I found a bunch of old mud dauber nests on my truck frame when I went through it.
Have the Africanized bees moved up to Georgia like they have here in Tucson? A few times a year, they swarm and attack someone pretty bad. Otherwise, do the nighttime tarp/bomb deal.

Nah, just pop open a cold one, scream "Di Di Mao Va Chet!" and soak those suckers good! Not only will you rid yourself of the nasty little pests, but your neighbors won't screw with you either...
Oh yeah, just to clarify, we are talking about wasps, right? 'Cause if you've got hornets I'd just burn the truck to the ground...those are one of the few of God's creatures that scare the beejeezers out of me!
