History The best excuse yet for bad body work

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by palosfv3, Apr 11, 2009.

  1. At the SW Chicago HAMB & Eggs weekly breakfast its not uncommon for old magazines and such to be passed around. I just had to post this article. It explains all the poor bodywork many have found on their cars over the years as well as the confusion many have about fillers.

Stu D Baker and myself have been fixin cars for more time than we can remember and just could not stop laughing , especially about piercing the panel with a large nail for better adhesion. Boy what a difference a couple of years make.:D

Man, That explains a lot. I have 51 F1 front metal that in many places look like they had that article in their hands when they were working on it. I always thought they were just morons, but now I get it.

That is EXACTLY how my dad taught me to do bodywork. He must have read that book when he was younger.

    Hey,

Yeah, I recall a time when you were encouraged to drill many holes in damaged panels so the filler could "rivit" itself to the repair! "no need to bump up deep damage, doing so will only cause more stretching", they "reasoned".

Nice cutting edge tech, there Larry!
