Cruiser49...I guess you don't read too good do you...can't spell either. It was I that posted, and NOT Mick...and I even identified myself in my first sentence...

It sure sounds to me like you've had an about face on your "distortions" and are trying to smooth things over...if you would have said "NCC", then maybe some would have agreed with you...as it was, you didn't...you simply said Jerrry "distorted" kustoms...and like you said yourself, everyone is en***led to their opinion...Jerry has his, I have mine.

Oh, BTW...the spelling comment: "soring" is spelled s-o-a-r-i-n-g...and "eagels" is spelled e-a-g-l-e-s. However, how can one soar with eagles when one must put up with turkeys?

Thanx for the reply...it's tech week!!!

#1, if you read my response, I DID say that customs were brought back by Jerry AND Pat. I DO know a bit about history. I worked for MANY years for a man who was VERY big on the EAST coast scene. Won about every major award that could be had on the car show circuit. I have known him for 26 years now, and was always in his shop, either part time, or full time, and heard all the reminiscing, and bench racing he, and his peers talked about. It was like being there. I picked up a lot of East Coast history from those guys. I also learned how to do custom bodwork, and paint from him. Unfortunatley, I was too young to live it....only 49 now.
You seem to thind that California was the ONLY place that cars existed.
It wasn't. Maybe you read too many magazines that came from the west coast. There were MANY MANY customs and rods on the right side of the country as well. Well, maybe I didn't visit Barris or Hines in the 50"s (but I did much later). But I did work for John Paszik. And I did visit, and/or know Sonny Daout, Cecil Proffit, Les Cove (jr.), Ed (Spike), and other east coast greats.
The KKOA is a national organization. NOT one just for the glorification of California!

I was at I believe was the first KKOA event in Des Moines Iowa in 1981, It was a good get together. Dont remember the number of cars in attendence, But cooool show. I was driving my 60 short box pickemup. 3.5 chop canted headlites, roll pan. tear drop park lites and conduet tube grile. About 40 percent red primer. A vehicle that was sneared at by the locals at home because it wasnt shinny and your basic belly ****on 32. Met Joe Ballion that year. Good guy. Being a builder of rods and customs I belive any changes makes a car a custom. I just prefer self expression in the cars. Being differnt than the other 873 49 mercs aint easy but hey Do it your way. Salina was FAN F%&$#(TASTIC. Plan on attending again next year. Cal

    Mr. 40StudeDude,

Thank you for all the kind words! Mick and I are alright with each other, he's a real cool dude. I'm not doing a about face on my statements just clarifying them. "New Concept Customs" and "NCC" are one in the same. Your spelling shot was cheap they were simple typo's, after all this isn't the "National Spelling Bee" on HAMB. My good buddy 32 Flathead says your a cool guy and I respect his opinion about you. I'll be sure to read your book "Banging Gears & Bustin' Heads, 32 says its a good read. This is one of the last two replies on the subject of the KKOA. I have better things to do with my time in the garage. I'm burying the hatchet how about you 40StudeDude.

Listen guys, It doesn't make a bit of difference where or why the word Kemp is used with Kustoms. It also doesn't make a bit of difference whether you are from the right coast or the left cost. Or from a red state or a blue state. Its all about the cars and the friendships you make when you attend an event. I was at the first Leadsled and I was at Salina last year and this year. I had just as much fun this year as all the other years I've attended. My car was at the first as well as the 20thand 25th. Its seen its better days. Hope to drive a new one next year. As long as I can make them I will be there. I wish I could make it to Paso and Sledscene East. The thing I want to say is it's all about the Kustoms and Hot Rods And the people that build and drive them. Its not about ego's or money or awards. So lighten up guys. We all love Kustoms, We all love hot rods, we Should all love each other. Peace

    Mr. Chopolds,

Another post with kind words for Cruiser 49. Thank you! I, totality agree with you about custom greats across the country. The great custom builders were on the West Coast, the East Coast and everywhere in between. Your right cars were everywhere across the country. California put the big bang into hot rods on the streets in Southern California and the dry lakes, from there it spread like wild fire across the whole USA. We have the GI's of WW2 to thank for lighting the fire and giving us what we have today in our car scene. Did someone say "The KKOA is a national organiztion. Not one for the glorification of California!" The last half of this qoute is off base and isn't true.............See my post to 40Studedude it goes for you too Chopolds.

Well guys, I'm not gonna argue about any of this, just say that, like Root, I got really burnt out on KKOA stuff, and I'd gone to Hangin' Dice, since the early 90's, Denison, from the get-go, and several spectaculars. Quit in 2003, but if it is getting better, maybe I'll try to make a couple this next year. I'm just glad to have run across the Jalopy Journal, in the meantime.

Enough squabbling. I'll be in Salina next year. Shoot, I may even re-up. If Mickey says it's all good...it has to be.
