The best laid plans......self induced setback, you get them?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Nov 16, 2003.

  1. Had everything planned out for this weekend. I only had to install the DOM bungs in my touring frame for the wishbones to have a roller. But I couldnt get anything going last night. Long story short, Randy made me answer my own question. Why did I go 1/4 elliptic on the front? too many reasons, one of them I started this project in cheapskate mode and wouldnt change. The touring now looks too fucking long, my tastes have changed. So I came home and have been lloking on the web and in mags for springs mounted on the wishbones. I know cry TABOOO! when this subject comes up, oh well.

So there is the unforseen plan I worked up last night. My cardinal rule is make a plan and stick to it. And I keep breaking this rule on my own car!!!

So how many of you guys do/have done, the same thing?

Rocky, I KNOW you can answer that question [IMG]

I'm right there with ya Tman. Convinced myself a 4dr '54 chevy would be a decent car to play with. Hell it was dirt cheap. Got about 3/4 way done. Engine, dash, half the body work, open driveline, tranny, etc. and have decided I can't stand the car. Now I have switched to a '49 ford and all the way back to the drawing board.

I`ve had this 40 (dressed as a 39) for years, I`ve thrown tons of money at it and now it just sits in the corner of the shop!
I like the car and I dont like the car [IMG]Cant decide what style I wanna go with, I dont have the money to finish it,so what do I do....start another project! [IMG]
It seems like I`m not happy with anything since I sold my 34-3 window project! Life was a financial bitch at the time or it would be hauling my ass around today!

Tman, I've got a plan. Pack up those '34 fenders and get them off to me and your shop and mind will be clear to proceed. HAHA!!! Just kidding, I'm no one to give advice on changing one's mind. It seems like I start a project with a clear goal in mind only to change the plan a dozen times. The only car I have that has still got the same build plan is my '32 5w. I've owned that car for 25 years and still see it being done according to my origional plan. The problem is I'll probably be too old to finish it by the trime I get to the other 10-20 projects that I have lying around.

  6. fab, as a matter of fact I just re-found your addy a few minutes ago. I took some time this weekend to do house stuff, cleaning windows, cleaning up this pile of stuff in the computer armoire etc. Your addy was right at the bottm of the pile. I will looky for a box and get the stuff shipped. In fact, I took the time to get some other long awaited HAMBers stuff ready to send this week as well.

My Bel-Air has sat in the shop for two or three years now, as I have quietly been gathering parts for it. Every time I go out there it pisses me off about the body shop I dealt with as it went in for quarter panels and a dash change, and what I got back was basically a pile of parts, with some really expensive stuff missing or broken, the motor seized from vandalism (99% sure it was the service manager or owner), and not much else. I had to start from scratch on it and deal with the fact the new owner of the body shop I had dealt with for 15 years is a first class asshole. In all this and more than a few $$ later, I never lost sight of the original plan for the car, and probably never will.
How long have I owned it? - At least 15 years
How long til it's finished? - Not sure
Is it for sale? - Never!!
T-man, no matter what the setbacks are, there's always a way around it. Besides, if the frame doesn't have the look you want, send it to me, I could use it for mine!!!

There is a differance between changing plans, and fine tuning details. If part of the plan doesn't work out as expected,it must be changed to maintain the original concept. As long as the overall plan and budget doesn't suffer, don't worry about it.
