This thread is intended to liven up the opinion controversy on HAMB. Getting sort of mild and boring lately. Who were/are the best drag racing team in history. I contend Bernie Fedderly, Austin Coil, in concert with John force were the GOAT. For a couple decades, John's car was perfectly tuned to every track on the circuit, week in and week out. John was a superior driver for sure but his pit crew always had his car zoned in when other teams blew up here and there.
Any single car team in the nitro classes that can run with the big dogs.. It's easy to be "the best" when you have the latest and greatest in parts and technology. Not as easy with second best parts and one year behind tech. Al Hofman comes to mind in FC Eddie Hill in TF. Don Prudhomme didn't wrench on his car but some very talented people did and the record show that. I takes a very talented small group to run any Pro Stock. Think of the best years and domination of Bob Glidden. 9 consecutive national event wins in 1979. Sox & Martin was more than Sox,Martin and Jake King It's all subjective and history goes back a long way. Going back to the 60's 70's Ohio George Montgomery,Don Nicholsonand other stars didn't win multiple events without a crew.
I don't know where you are living, but there is enough controversy in modern life times four! I like it mild here. Guys n gals sitting around the campfire reminiscing and helping each other out, rather than having a heated argument about some car color, some superlative (most, best, smartest, fastest EVER) or trying to predict the future so they can sell at the top of the market. And for what, so a consensus can be reached and everyone all has to have a 1932 Ford Roadster in a specific Black paint, with a specific leather interior, and the exact list of chassis and drivetrain parts we all agree on, or else you aren't one of us?
