Bondo, paint, buffing compound, final detail spray. The Bodyshop
smell. After so many years other people notice the smell more than Me. On another note, What the Hell are they making Cigarettes from these days ? When I was a Kid I loved the smell of my Ole Man lighting up. My
helper still smokes, and when he lites up, I want to puke. I don't Know how to describe that nasty smell. It damn sure doesn't bring back any pleasant memories. When he exhales it's probably rotting
lung that I smell?? The best smell in the world still is, Steaming Hot
    Ready for Action Pussy.!!!:p JMHO

Nothing better than pulling out a crusty farm fresh headliner and getting a whiff of 70 year old mouse crap and pee. Oh wait, theres lots of things better than that.

This is one sick thread . . . but 50 year old gear oil and a whiff of cigar does it for me.

the smell of a freshly opened can of paint or body filler always brings back memories of when my mom would let me go outside and watch my dad work on cars in the garage.
burnt rubber is also a great smell :D

oh and old car exhaust fumes

  22. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but, I like the smell of old metal. You machinists know what I'm talking about. Ever bore a Chevy 350, and then bore a 235? The old stuff smells different. Recently I used pieces of a '40 Ford axle to make some u-joint caps on the lathe. WHAT A SMELL!!!!!!!

Well I'm very glad I'm not the only one around with any weird fixations. I do have to agree with moparsled There is a sweet smell that goes with taking a grinder to block of iron and wearing out the disc just to smell the iron burn. I dont personally wear perfume, however I believe that a badge of honor comes with greasy fingernails and that oil smell you cant get off your hands. I would much rather shake the hands of 100 greasy, hard working people than to shake the hand of one that doesnt know the rewards of working with your hands and crafting something personal and unique, and the pride that comes from saying "I did that". Oh by the way perfume is what you puor on the concrete to get rid of the dogs poop smell when you clean out the garage!!!!!! hee heee hheeeeee.......

just thinking, there are non automotive smells i like to, like wood boats and salt water, but i hate the smell of mouldy fibreglass boats but mainly automotive smells, i grew up around people doing up cars and although i am amongst the smells every day it brings back soothing memories from my child hood, also most perfumes make me sneeze. i hate flowers.

  27. One smell I didn't mention that rocks, the smell of an old airplane! Not a 60s Cessna but a warbird or pre-war machine. Superb.

  28. Docwatson, I agree.
I noticed that when I go to an airshow, or even better; the Airforce museum at Dayton, Ohio. Stick your head up in the gear compartment on a B-29 (Bockscar) for a great smell. And talk about history!
