IMG_6188.jpeg I lucked into a lightly used B-3 for $300! I was on the lookout for one forever, then about 5-6 years ago a machine shop listed one. I hustled over to learn that they bought it and only used it for a few prototype projects, then decided they didn't want to get into sheet metal work and parked it on a shelf for years. It's due for polish/oil.
Such a great tool. I love it.

  3. I was looking forever for a good used one. Found a B1 for a really good price, bought it and found a B2 a year later. Sold the B1 for a little more and bought the B2, a B3 would be really nice though.

I’ll be working out back and the wife over here’s me talking, who you talking to? You talking to yourself? Sometimes I’m talking to my grandson or someone else. I do talk to myself, it’s true. So I would hear her tending to her garden, so I would say things like, “ Damn Beverly, you sure have a sturdy frame “, or “ Things have been so much better since you entered my life Beverly”. Drives the women nuts. Who’s this woman Beverly you been talking to? What the hell you talking about? I was talking to Mr. Waverley about doing some frame work on his car.

When my dad passed away in '17, I inherited his B2. When we had an estate sale, all his car buddies were asking where it was, and if I would sell it. HELL NO! I got it and restored it. Did it in red to be different. Works like a charm. I don't use it as much as I'd like, but I do have plenty of people stop by to use it. I put a tag on the bottom to inform whoever sells all my shit when I die that it's worth more than a hundred bux.... Beverly Shear 2.jpg Beverly Shear.jpg

Thanks to Oliver for this thread! It rang a faint bell with me until I recalled that months ago my buddy came into my shop to drop off an old tool that he thought I could use, an event that happens regularly. I was in mid thrash, preoccupied, and only glanced at it, not recognizing it. “It’s a Beverly shear”. He slid it under a stored vehicle and I forgot about it. I’m a dumbass. Having read this thread, I pulled it out of hiding to find that it is a B3, dirty but low usage. I gave it a solvent and scotchbrite bath and some lubrication . Now I will build a stand for it. I had to call my friend to get the back story; he attended an auction to bid on an electric crane (he won) and the Beverly was won with his opening bid of 25 dollars.

  9. I scored my B1 and B3 for $190 together. They each need stands, though.

Wow, I didn’t know you had a B1 and B3! Between the two of us we have a full set.

I'm sorry to inform you but it seems your friend stole that for $25. I will be over shortly to pick up the evidence.

It was soothing, and he does neat work. Made my teeth ache though watching metric wrenches used on US kit. Better than water pump pliers I guess :D

    cheers,

Stand is a cultivating disk with a piece of torque tube on top. Perfect height now! Now to spend the next 20 yrs scratching it all to hell!

I bought this model SS, slitting shear for $58 8 years ago. It is NOT as good as the model B throatless shears but I use it all the time. Even when (or if ) I find a model B, I would keep this one. It cuts 18 gage sheet metal straight as an arrow like a knife in hot butter. When my grandkids come over its the first thing they ask to do..cut sheet metal.

Big score out at Carlisle today! My buddy, Ken bought a Beverly B3, with the promise that i would buy his B2. Which means the B1 I've been using is up for grabs. Pm me.
